We won’t. But I’ll be happy if we play well for the rest of the season. The team’s finally starting to play like I thought we would. The past dozen or so games have been so much better.

And we’ve got a bit of an easier stretch in the schedule now so hoepfully We can pull some wins out of it. .500 the rest of the way and I’d be happy.

But crap teams like Bruins beat us. Also a team like the Wild beat us and also LAK on a back to back game beat us.
The Wild has a 18-4-4 record this season and currently lead the league in points. Not a lot of teams beat them this year...

What about other teams racking up pts early in the season winning against easy teams / weak schedules - Canes, Make Beliefs, Bruins, NYR…

Toronto has been a good regular season team for a long time, and there was no reason to think that was going to change this year especially with the new coach bump. They will make it to the playoffs comfortably like they have done for the better part of matthews era.

Florida will be there as well, so that leaves one auto spot open in the division. Buffalo is Buffalo and Montreal isn't close yet. Ottawa somehow still can't seem to figure out how to take the next step, and Detroit is in a similar situation.

So, it's basically Boston and Tampa going for that other spot, and that doesn't change until Detroit or Ottawa do something about it.

What happens early in the season is not representative of a teams level. They may still beat us but they are not that good. Those teams may still contend though because there are no really good teams.

Or the Habs given they are 4pts back w games in hand…

Habs aren't going to be there, man. This is not a playoff team, and they don't have the maturity in their game nor the horses at this time and this will be proven over 82 games.

As I said earlier, I'm pretty sure the Habs were closer to the playoffs at this time last year so you dont have to look far to see what that is worth when it's all said and done.

A playoff team is a team that qualifies for the playoffs based on pts - if Habs are in it going into March, then the youthful enthusiasm factor (hunger & ignorance) w zero expectations also kicks in vs teams that carry the load of expectations

Only time will tell of course..

6-5 in last 11 games

Consistency and frequency of strong team performance are both increasing.

If they can avoid major injury to key players for Dec/Jan I bet they'll be sitting within 2-3 pts of WC spot, if not holding one, by February.

The past few years there's been a lot of competition in the east, but usually there's as big gulf, especially in our division. This year, there's been so much parity that we're last in the wildcard race but only 4pts out of WC2.

I don't expect playoffs, but until we're out, I'm in.

Much more parity in the East, gap between last and playoffs is much more narrow than West. Another year we’d already be out.

Had Montreal gotten their shit together in camp and not floated at the beginning of the season they would be in a much more enviable position with much better odds of making the playoffs in this diluted league.

top 3 pick is way more important that wild card this year
As much as I don't think we're making the playoffs, I don't think we're getting a top three pick either.

I always figured we'd be around 85-ish points. A nice improvement but not enough to make the playoffs. We had a terrible stretch where we lost six in a row. Outside of that though, we've been pretty good since. We might get a top ten pick but I'd be suprised if it's top five.

6 people thought this tire fire team would make the playoffs?
This isn’t the 2023-24 habs team.
Now that was a team

Looking back on the schedule we had a brutal month that killed us. Oct 14th to Nov 14th. Four losses in a row followed by a couple of wins and then six straight losses. Absolutely awful stretch. We've improved by a lot since then, not just in the results but how we look on the ice.
