Update: Habs now 3 points from the Sens in the Wild Card spot. Both teams have played 37 games.

Habs: 37 (but Habs have 1 game in hand on Flyers, now 2 games in hands vs both BJ & Pens)

Looks like just a matter of time before the Lightning pass the Bruins. It would also be kind of funny to see the last wildcard spot be a battle between Sens and Bruins given how everything went down with goalies. Ideally we are comfortably in 7th in this situation.

It's a game in hand on Philadelphia & CBJ, too. We'll jump them with 2 pts & still hold a game in hand.

Pens & Ottawa both play tomorrow. Pens @ Panthers. Sens @ Blues. If Pens lose, we'll pass them based on games played, while being tied in points (Habs hold 2 games in hand).

We definitely need a Sens loss to get within that one point; however a bonus is if we do win & they lose, we gain the 1st tie breaker (RW 15-14), too.

Bruins played like 5 more games than anyone and teams are catching up to them now. Their new coach buff seems to have expired too. They are already falling, the ? is if they start to flatline in a wildcard spot or drop even further.

Pens, CJB and Flyers flatlined around .500 for a while now. I don't see CJB/Flyers constant enough to climb up and reach .550-.560 to take a wildcard thought.

Sens are going back to struggling until Ullmark is back. The remaining Habs-Sens games are going to be must win.

Watch out for Detroit, they won all their games since losing to the Habs and last season they almost climbed bad into WC2 (same amount of points as the Caps, but lost to the tie breaker).

DET just changed their coach. Let's see if they can keep this up. I don't think they will.

Just noticed, the flyers have 9 ROW..........and 8 SO wins.

Bruins are definitely catchable. Sens are only 4 pts back with 3 games in hand, although Ottawa has been in that type of situation before and completely failed to utilize it.

As it is, TB will pass them really, really soon (they have 5 games in hand!) & Bruins will fall into WC muck.

We are trending so well, with a 9-4 win loss in the last 13 games..........tough games ahead the rest of January, but the boys wanted to be in the mix, and here we are.
That said, it's January, not March, so..................cautiously optimistic.

Having said that, Habs still has a tough schedule ahead of them, injuries can derailed the season and we're not going to win every game. It's not about keeping this streak going, it's about more positive one than bad one going forward.

The next 2-3 weeks is crucial....if we stay in the mix, then the Habs will start playing some big 4 points games and that would be more fun than what we in the last 3 years.

Desired results for tonight:

- MTL win vs. CHI

- PIT reg. loss to FLA: PIT reg. loss + MTL win = MTL moves ahead of PIT. They'd be tied in points, but MTL have a game in hand + more RWs.
- OTT reg. loss to STL: OTT reg. loss + MTL win = MTL moves 1 point behind OTT.


*A MTL win coupled with a PIT regulation loss means MTL could end the night ahead of CBJ, PHI & PIT and be the top team that sits outside the Wild Card spot.*

*If MTL lose, but lose in OT/SO and pick up a loser point. They'd still end the night ahead of CBJ and PHI. In such a case, they'd all be tied at 38 pts, but MTL has a game in hand on both of them. But they also have more RWs than both.*
