Will the Habs make the playoffs?

It's been a long time since the city's buzzing about the Habs.

I'm sitting in a McDonalds on the West Island, listening to a table of middle-age & older men furiously debate the team's playoff chances. It's crazy and wonderful! I came thisclose to walking over and giving the old fat dude an infraction for insulting the other guy.

Plus if they end up missing out on the playoffs this season I can guarantee the whole locker room will be pissed that they missed out due to an awful start to the season. Give them a full offseason to stew in that anger and hopefully they come into next season shot out of a cannon.
Starting the season like that is how the Habs have collapsed by mid-December for over a decade or two. Just running out of energy after half a season.

My preferences tonight!

Habs regulation time victory - put us 7 pts up on Red Wings
Sens regulation time victory over Boston - We keep pace with Ottawa, but Boston falls 2 points behind both of us with more games played.
Carolina with a reg win over Jackets - Both of Ottawa and us jump them. Moves us back into wildcard.
Flyers in reg over Rangers - Creates 4 pts spread with Rangers who have same number of games and 2 point spread with Flyers who still have played one more game than us.
Ducks over Pens in regulation put Pens 6 pts back of us with a win for us.

Utah over Minnesota - puts Utah 2 pts back of Flames
Vancouver over Edmonton - put Vancouver 1 pt ahead of Calgary
Blues over Vegas - puts Blues 1 point ahead of Calgary
*if**
Flames lose to Buffalo

I dont share your positivity about Calgary.. i want them to win until 62gp.. i keep waiting for their wheels to fall off to start the march towards bottom 10.
Don't get greedy on them.. they still need to win to finish 11th

Wow! A lot of live dogs in the playoff race for the last 3 spots:

- Boston
- Ottawa
- Detroit
- Tampa
- NYR
- MTL
- Columbus

7 Legit teams (plus maybe the Flyers and Pens get it together). It's going to be tough for us to make it.

I don't think they get in but it's very nice to see them competing and beating good teams. I'm still expecting a pick from 10-16 range. Nothing has changed for me.

The first 1/3 of the season was deflating. Making us wonder how far we are. This is a resilient team with good parts and they showed how much better they are from the bad start to the season. Basically, we have caught the Wings, Sabres, and Sens in the rebuilding process and I'm sure those teams hate it because they have been lingering on for a while now.

Habs have proven that our transition years are less than the others who rebuilt. And we have a shit load more youth coming with loads of picks to come. This is a very positive situation

I also voted no for the playoffs, but the race for that WC spot is so much fun I'm suspending my skepticism for now. A week from now we could be back in or buried behind four or five teams... how weird is that?

Whatever happens, it feels so good to cheer for the team again. Even if we end up outside the playoffs, we have the consolation that all evidence points to the Habs as a legit team on the rise. And then next year we add more high-end assets... how cool is that?

Selfishly I don't want them to make it because it means Demidov won't be there as part of the run. Kinda want him on the magic.

I can't remember a race so tight with so many teams still in the mix. Bruins and Wings win last night and made it tighter.

Lighting, Bruins, Rangers are going to be tested by the Blue Jackets, Habs, Sens, Flyers, Wings. 7 teams separated by 6 pts and fighting for 3 spots. Crazy stuff. Pens, Sabres, and Islanders seem to be out.

Habs are resilient. They will remain in the mix and this is a great challenge for our young core with some vets mixed in.
