Will the Habs make the playoffs?

Yeah the out of town scoreboard is even hotter against the Habs than the Habs are against the league. It's getting comical at this point.

Regardless, the Habs can still occupy a wildcard if cbj regulation loses and Montreal regulation wins.

Sens win it in the shootout. They knock BOS out of a playoff spot.

OTT hold WC1 with 50 pts in 45 GP
CBJ hold WC2 with 50 pts in 45 GP

BOS are 9th with 50 pts in 47 GP

If MTL wins, they move ahead of BOS. If MTL wins and CBJ lose in regulation, MTL will finish holding WC2.

If MTL wins and CBJ loses in regulation, there will be 4 teams with 50 pts. But OTT and MTL would be ahead because they both have games in hand on both CBJ and BOS.

The Adam Michaels tank updates have become the mix updates. How the times have changed :D.

We will need to go on another good winning streak if we want to keep playoff hopes alive. Even though the Bruins are falling apart, the Sens/Jackets/Wings are also playing some good hockey.

Wings just lost both games in regulation this weekend. I'm wondering if it's a bump in the road or a sign that the new coach bump is wearing off.

That was a rough weekend for Detroit and they dropped in the standings. It almost happened to montreal too.

Which is good because we play them this week

Coach bump last 5-8 games and their win streak was 8 games. They also faced mostly easy teams during their coach bump, but now have the hardest strength of schedule in the league...

But they will never be far away, those Habs/Detroit games will be 4 points games still.

It's MLK Day in the States, so games start early today. Here are the desired results:

- BOS reg. loss vs SJS: BOS reg. loss = MTL remains ahead. Tied in pts, but MTL will have 2 games in hand.
- TBL reg. loss vs. TOR: TBL reg. loss = MTL will remain 3 pts behind TBL. TBL will have 1 game in hand.
- PIT reg. loss vs. LAK: PIT reg. loss = MTL will remain 4 pts ahead of PIT. MTL will have 3 games in hand.
- BUF reg. loss to SEA: BUF reg. loss = MTL will remain 11 pts ahead of BUF.

Match that needs to end in regulation, no matter who wins:

- CBJ vs. NYI: CBJ reg. loss = MTL remains 1 point behind CBJ. MTL will have 1 game in hand. NYI reg. loss = MTL remains 7 pts ahead of NYI.

NYI have gone 1-5 against Eastern teams their last 6 games (since Xmas break). The only teams they're beating are Western Conference teams.

The only team they beat was Boston in OT.

I expect Columbus to win again.

My prediction:

Bruins win
CBJ win
TBL loss (maybe OT)
Pens loss

I'd rather have Tampa coming into Montreal with a win. I don't want to face them coming in with a mentality that they have to beat Montreal.

I know it would mean Montreal would have an opportunity to close the gap on Tampa if the lightning lose today, but I don't think catching them is realistic when 82 games are played.... so I'd just focus on not having an angry Tampa team come to town.

The Rangers have also been winning of late. They're 6-1-3 in their last 10. With their loser point last night, they move 2 points behind Habs. And they have the most RWs among the teams in the mix with 20.

I really think Buffalo is out of the playoff picture at this point. Assuming a team needs at least 91 points to get into the playoffs (typically it’s more) they would need 52 points in their last 37 games. I can’t see that happening.

I also think the Islanders are out, I can’t see them getting 48 points in their last 37 games. Hopefully they can win against Columbus in regulation.
