What do we need to take the next step.
We keep marching on, our destiny lies in our own hands.

Funny how after the win against Vancouver we were WC2. Since then we got 7 pts out of a possibility of 8 and we dropped 2 ranks .

Only 1 game of interest tomorrow.
Pens vs Sabres . Hopefully Sabres still believe 😀

It’s actually quite crazy, I can’t remember seeing this before where bubble teams win against top teams for such a long stretch. Sure makes the scoreboard watching interesting
There aren't 10 teams fighting for a playoff spot, nobody is taking a WC playing for .500. The team who actually either already had or now have the win rate required to get a WC in the East are Habs, Boston, Sens, Columbus and Detroit. Everyone else has to play for like .700 the rest of the season to get to 90 points (and point projection are increasing, it's now 91 pts for the WCs...it was 86 last week).

Our 3rd line is starting to lose it's luster, i wonder if they need some rest. Maybe bringing some youth (Beck, Davidson etc...) for some games would give the vets the rest that is needed and would also expose our youth to some pro hockey during a winning stretch.

Lost in all this is we're only 3 points behind the Bolts and the #3 spot in our division (they have a game in hand).

We are also 7 points behind the Panthers with 2 games in hands. I don't expect us to pass them but the fact that its not completely out of question is incredible in itself.

Let's be real, the 3rd line is the Evans line.

The 4th line hasn't really done much for us in a long time, but they aren't even calling anyone up to replace Heineman. Fat chance they do anything with that line.

Hockey-Reference Atlantic winner point projection is ~99 pts right now, Leafs have a .630 record since the season started and their last month is at .625 (2nd best in the Atlantic in that stretch). That's good for ~100.

But if the Habs continue playing for .800 until the rest of the season, they finish with ~108 pts! And will be #1 in the Altantic. That's a big if.

I was referring to the vets line - Andy/Dvo/Gally. "Officially" this is our 3rd line but i know what you mean. If we make it to the POs, we will need these vets to step up, and tbh i think they will. These guys have been in the NHL for a while and 2/3 were in the Finals not too long ago (along with Suzuki, CC).

I think they are doing just fine. Would not touch, especially now. Everyone on the team, even the most disliked or criticized players, contribute to wins and form part of a unit. Points are not a meanigful way of evaluating that lines performance. In brief, don't tamper with a winning formula.

On December 14th
Habs home record: 8-7-2
Habs away record: 3-9-1

Since December 15th, Habs have been paying for 0.821 and tus
Habs home record: 11-7-3
Habs away record: 11-11-1

Also, top players in point (since December 15th, 14 games):
Caufield: 16
Hutson: 16
Suzuki: 15
Slaf: 9
and 4 dudes with 8 pts (Evans line + Laine).

Our current win rate is not sustainable. It will drop at some point.
