Could we make the playoffs next season if we add Dubois or another top 6 player?

Could we make the playoffs next season if we add Dubois or another top 6 player? This is what the roster could look like, players can be switched around.

Dubois - Suzuki - Caufield
Slafkovsky - Dach - Harvey P
Hoffman - Dvorak - Anderson
Farrell - Evans - Ylonen
Armia - Pitlick - Gurianov
Pezetta - Tierney - Gallagher

Guhle - Savard
Matheson - Barron
Xhekaj - Harris
Kovacevic - Wideman
Edmundson

Montembault - Allen

Can't see making playoffs. Of the teams in the playoffs, Tampa might slide but I doubt it will be enough and both Ottawa and Buffalo will be moving up is my guess. Hard to bet against Boston as well.

No because when games actually count our defence and goaltenders will suck cow patties. We can rejoice in the fact that we'll be mired in mediocrity for another decade.
Doing ok bud? Need to talk?

Outside of having a bluechip goalie prospect, this is team has the most potential for a few years down the road I've ever witnessed in Montreal. I'm 38.

I really dislike that lineup: Savard can't and shouldn't be on a 1st pairing, Slafkobsky hasn't shown he should be pencilled in the top 6, no way RHP is pencilled above Anderson and Hoffman (like him or not, hes been producing as of late), the 4th line desperately needs more grit...

I don't see this team making the playoffs, but they probably end up 9-12th in the east. That could easily change with a key move or two, though. And depending on the draft.

I don't see playoffs next year, not because the team won't be good, but because the east will be very strong. Boston and Toronto should still be a playoff team. Tampa probably. NYR for sure. Carolina. NJD. Ottawa and Buffalo and probably Florida will be ahead of Montreal. I just named 9 teams in the east that should be ahead of Montreal. So it's hard to imagine playoffs rn. But that's alright. Boston, toronto and tampa won't be forever.

Ottawa is our competition for a bottom spot. I think we can do it.

Maybe. Everything is possible, but i dont see it. They are further along their rebuild and bought some very interesting pieces in Debrincat and Chychrun that should solidify them even more.

Injuries will be the bigger variable...

We're leading the league this year, and even if you remove Price & Byron, we're still top 5 in games lost.

Flip that to a season with middle of the pack or better health, and we'll be fighting for a playoff spot even without adding a PLD caliber upgrade.

MSL has done an excellent job and the organization approach to player development gives me a lot of confidence that we'll continue to see good progress from are U25 players.

Too many tryhard in the Atlantic make it very hard to make the playoffs if you can't secure a division seed. Since the high rate of points split in the Atlantic give the Metro teams an advantage to take the WC spots.

In the west sure. In the east going to be super hard. Still have two highly questionable goalies. Still have a young defense without much experience in important games with pressure. Winning games when you play for yourself and the team is eliminated is not the same as winning games when you play for the team and any mistake you do could cost the team an important win.

Somehow I doubt it. We are not 1-2 players away, unless one of them is the equivalent of Price at his peak.

Also, the yearly overpopulating of the infirmary, well beyond most teams, is alarming. The upshot is that this is something that deep learning could help with, reconstructing in 3D the injury-causing events seen on digital video. I don't think that the Habs have this expertise. Certainly most physicians don't. The fact that it happens to them so often is beyond coincidence though. If it keeps happening, forget about the playoffs.

not with all the dead weight secondary scoring. Need to get rid of Hoffman, drouin, Armia and the rest of the freeloaders somehow. Blueline is pretty ripe, and the goaltending is sus.

Watch how Washington does it, and the Penguins.. they will totally tank to get the next Beddard the year after, they don't coast along at 10th they do it right
