Still need to figure out our 4th line.

I'm happy with what Dubas did. I think a lot of teams bought pieces today, without a real chance to win it all in reality.

I think Kyle looks around and knows that this just isn't our year. If we can win a round and get over that hurdle, that's probably a small victory.

Some might think that's a loser's attitude, but I just think it's realistic. This team just needs some more tinkering, whether we like it, or not.

Guess the Leafs are hoping that put a better defense in front of Campbell will give him a better chance to succeed and bring back his November form...

We needed a significant forward addition. Seeing how cheap Rakell went hurts. We're in a lot of trouble, basically relying on Auston and Mitch, both of whom were terrible last post season. Think we might be seeing the end of Dubas. I've defended him for a really long time, but I'm losing faith and hope.

it is a loser's attitude.

The big-4 is in their prime and they think they can just write off years because it's "not their time?"

Who the f*** knows if Auston is still even here in 3 years.

He May not be.

It’s hard to win a Cup.

I don’t think surrendering a lot of futures would have been the right move todah

If we make no noise in the playoffs this year it’s time to address the core regardless.

Retaining prospects and picks is a good move in that event.

Tavares and Nylander need to step the fk up.

Outside of putting Muzzin on LTIR and spending a 1st round pick + on a goalie, I'm just not sure what you expected them to do?

Dubas painted himself in a corner when he paid the big 4 forwards what he did, and got unlucky with the cap staying stagnant with Covid-19, which he didn't expect. He then wasted important picks on a washed up Nick Foligno last year, a trade I bitched about for weeks prior to and after it was made.

Lyubushkin was a good addition. Giordano will be fine as well, especially when he signs a Spezza style retirement contract in the off season. I'm open minded on Blackwell being a small upgrade to our bottom 6.

I would have loved a top 6 left wing, and a goalie upgrade, but I still don't think we'd be good enough and we might have been down a couple 1st round picks to get that done, as well as a couple of Robertson, Knies, Niemela, Liljegren, Hirvonen and Abruzzese. With Amirov's medical future in doubt, we might have have been left with a pretty bare cupboard, no quality picks to replenish it, and we'd likely still be looking at our roster and thinking "3 teams in our own division are still better".

Why is the exact reason he should be fired in the off-season. I agree it is not realistic for this team to win a cup which is why it is also stupid to spend draft picks to upgrade, before the trade we weren’t good enough to win a cup and after blowing out multiple 2nd round picks we are still not a contender. Those picks could be used as assets in the off-season to upgrade for next years version to try and be a legit contender. Dubas fails once again.

Sign Knies with a contract slot. We're super soft so Simmonds needs to stay in the lineup imo even though him and Spezza haven't brought much of anything to our 4th line this season. Give Simmonds speed around him. 1st and 3rd lines are locked in. Blackwell & Kerfoot were College teammates I believe I heard Blackwell say in his interview.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Knies-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Kampf-Mikheyev
Blackwell-Kerfoot-Simmonds
Rielly-Lyubushkin
Giordano-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl

With the addition of Knies....I don't hate this lineup. Assuming Knies can play the way he has been all season/on the big stage. Kase can come in for Knies if he struggles, Engvall if he goes back to Engvall ways, or Simmonds if we're willing to abort any toughness at all. We definitely have too many NHL forwards and NHL defenseman (Spezza, Kase, Robertson, Sandin, Liljegren not mentioned in this lineup)

The East is beastly. All 8 playoff teams are good. It may come down to matchups. COL and CGY look like they might smooth sail to the West final!

A lot of people fret over us not doing much at the deadlines... but look at the amazing players we have that no one else does. Matthews and Marner are unique and ours. I think the addition of the 'beef' we've made will do us well.

Two concerns remain, 2nd line... it sucks. Goaltending, what do we have; all we need is some consistent average NHL goaltending.

The final stretch should help clarify things.

I think the extended value in of spending what he did on Giordano, is that it gives Toronto the inside track to get him re-signed for about $1 million a year, for two years after this one, on one year deals. You integrate him into the roster now, rather than risk him wanting to come home in the off season, but having him go elsewhere because they throw a couple million dollars at him, where as you want to get him cheap. I think there is something to be said about getting a player into your realm of influence.

Did not want to trade his #1 pick and doesn't have many. Don't mind what he did but might have been better to use all his chips to get Chychrun and Crouse. We need Matty to be the best player in the playoffs or it will be a quick exit.

Any reason why we’re looking at knies over our top Marlies performers?
My guess is it's just optimism because he brings a size and strength dimension that is fairly unique to our team outside of Matthews and Tavares, neither of whom is a winger.

I highly doubt Knies is ready to make a contribution that could change the outcome of a playoff round.

Good thing about our second line was last year Tavares didn't play and Nylander and Kerfoot weren't good in the regular season but stepped up in the playoffs.
