4 games in and Canucks fans were right all along about AV. Okay

This board is a bit bi-polar. Mason at 97 % happens once for him and never again. If we continue to shoot as much as we do and he's still at 97 % then he's the best goalie in the world. Which he isn't. He's back at 90 + / - and we're won the series. Most likely. Rangers will win this series. I have no doubt. And AV is a very good Coach.

Look there is another coach who plays the same system and has had tremendous regular season success but faltered in the playoffs for the last several years, and his name is Bruce Boudreau. I was harping about making adjustments to play a tighter checking game earlier in the year because that's how the games go in the playoffs.

AV in this series so far has twice as many playoff wins in 2014, as he does in the last 2 playoff seasons combined (thats 2 wins). So let's give him some time, but AV's shortcomings regarding the inability to motivate players, and banking on his system has shown up this series.

Hopefully they can turn it around.

What does this even mean?

All teams play a tighter checking game in the playoffs. The Flyers play a traditional Box 1 and Zone system, and unless they are taking penalties, the Rangers haven't exactly been able to solve their back up or Mason.

Too much perimeter play from the Rangers to sustain offense, and high risky turnovers sending the Flyers back the other way.

What he means is, does it help the team win in the playoffs?

The Rangers are tied for the 5th most goals in these playoffs. Without the goal taken away, they'd be tied for 4th.

The only glaring problem systematically has been the power play.

And the fact that AV is making lineup changes is shocking in and of itself. 2 Lines have been rolling (1st and 4th), Richards' has been rather good and was very much so today. The only one I've had an issue with is Zucc's line, but that's likely due to Brassard playing like crap thus far. What should he do, break up 3 lines that have had good chemistry and the one that was probably our most consistent all season?

I really don't know what more you want AV to do. You can nitpick all you want. I think he's done very well so far. The Rangers have won 3 games and were arguably the better team in the 2 they lost. **** happens.

You can't blame him for Nash slumping. You can't blame him for Brassard slumping. You can't blame him for McD not being back at 100%. You can't blame him for that gaping hole that Kreider left and is as of now a rotating door.

I've been, pleasantly (since I actually thought he'd be a **** coach in the playoffs), surprised with AV.

The biggest issue I've had with AV this playoffs is the fact that he continues to allow Stepan to take important face-offs. Outside of that (power play notwithstanding) I think he's done a good a job as we can ask.

They haven't solved Mason or Emery, yet are up in the series 3-2?

Man HF, you never cease to amaze me.

They've (The Rangers) outplayed the Flyers the whole series, every game. Should have been over by now, but it isn't. Those goalies stole 2 games.

I think the Rangers can take the east if they don't line up versus Boston, and AV's done a great job of turning the season around.

But it remains to be seen if this system can win in the playoffs today.

AV was 1-11 in his last 12 playoff games with Vancouver. 1-11. There is a reason for my skepticism.

With this win today, AV now has 3x as many wins this post season, as he did in the last 2.

With all that said, I like the guy, and think he is a very smart man. His ability to process information is far more impressive than what I originally thought. Steve Mason was the story this game, but prior to that, the Flyers goaltending held up well.

If the Rangers end up in the ECF, they likely will play Boston.

AV is a fine coach for this group of players…. the question is whether or not this collection of players can win a cup. Probably not, but who knows. Boston is the only team that really scares me in the east.

Not sure how fans can't be happy w AV. This teams way more threatening w his style over torts

I've been a huge fan of AV's. I love the style of play this team has. Offensively they look like they know what they're doing, rather than the previous team that kind of threw **** at the wall to see how much sticks and defensively we've spent far less time in our own zone. I just don't like how poorly we've played down 1 in the 3rd period for 2 games in the same series. I also admitted that the players were ****. I just have to wonder what the coach was doing after game 2. Whatever, I'm overall giddy with AV and this was my first complaint about him in a while. I probably overreacted but that Friday game hit a particular nerve and there were other issues involved.

At the risk of sounding like a huge jerk, your nerves often get the best of you.

AV has been very good and the Rangers have been one of the best 3rd period teams all year. Regardless of what you may "think" coaches do, they're not out there playing. A coach who has one of the best 3rd period teams in the league is not going to try and change there approach based on one or two bad games.

Nothing wrong with Alain, the Rangers chances have more to do with the players. They cannot afford many "off games", and that is the measure of teams that contest for a championship - they don't neglect to play their game with ruthless consistency.

Just no. If the you admit that the players were ****, doesn't that completely contradict your curiosity as to why AV couldn't get anything done during those specific times? We were 2-2 in the series when you made this thread. FFS, at least wait until we are down in a series before making a thread like this.

This will be bumped big time during the Pens series but there's no reason to complain now.

No? He seems to have absolutely no plan B what so ever. I rarely see a spark, nothing, nada when the team struggles. It really got me last night. Some new combinations, something, just do something. He also kept hank on for too long.

If you jumped in the game after halfway through and hided the scoreboard, you would think this was a boring tie game at that point.

There has been a lack of adjustments in certain areas.

There comes a time when every coach needs to tell his team to dump the puck and win a battle if thats what the opposition is giving you. And, if you don't, you're going to sit on the ****ing bench.

Does AV have that in him? Or is he too much of an ideologue?

I have confidence AV has the team playing the right style - whether we can accomplish anything with this flawed roster is another question, but I feel if anybody can, AV can.

If theres anything that '11-12 and '13-14 should teach us, its that theres no such thing as "the right style"

The teams that succeed are the ones that are versatile enough to play the style that exposes what the opposition is giving them.

Ahh so two weeks into the regular season and three quarters of the fan base wants the guys head on a stick in the middle of times square, then we give him a little time and....look at that this guy actually knows what hes doing. Maybe more than a few playoff games could do the trick here, its hard to make adjustments when Rich Nash is out there looking like he could give a **** about the result of the game 90% of the time, and nobody on the team looks like they have any kind of killer instinct or want to step on a team that they are better than.

I guess I'm saying I'm confident AV is doing just that, to the extent his current roster allows.
