With all of the wing prospects we couldn’t even get a change of scenery older prospect like Tuomisto to help replace Dumoulin if we end up trading him?

Maybe Steve told Pat that he is going for a big trade and promised them some picks or prospects to be the 3rd party team? Or maybe he’s got some blackmail on him lol.

There comes a point where you have to compete, he has shown in the past he's willing to make a splash. Clearing 3.6 mil for this season only, days before the deadline tells me he's ready to make a significant move if it presents itself.

If the Schenns are indeed available, I could see Detroit going in that direction.
Brayden schenn means we are competing?

Can’t they borrow a goalie from some stacked ECHL team and not hook up Detroit?

Tough time of year to find an AHL quality depth goaltender who's on an expiring deal and wouldn't cost assets.

Ballpark goalie depth charts, I might have missed some recent changes:

WSH: Lindgren - Thompson - Shepard - Stevenson - Gibson - Bjorklund

Not sure how many expendable depth goalies there are. More teams than I expected are running lean and only have four goalies with NHL deals. You got some older non-prospect goalies on AHL only deals like Kevin Poulin, Jon Gillies, Ken Appleby who aren't palatable solutions. Playoff teams are holding onto guys like Kahkonen/Hellberg/Domingue/Driedger as insurance #3s.

So Anaheim took a 4+m goalie off of Detroits hands because “AHL Depth”. Hard to believe Seravalli that there isn’t more to this.

Guess Verbeek could just be doing Yzerman a favour.

Deal doesn’t make much sense unless Gibson is being moved to me.
We may also see Detroit offload someone to San Jose as well.

This is a little payback for the Robbie Fabbri and a 4th trade, no doubt.

So don’t be surprised if Detroit adds someone like Ristolainen from Philly and strangely enough San Jose (apparently for no reason) takes a Justin Holl for those same future considerations, not even being part of the deal with Philly.

Risto? Lol why would that be an upgrade lol.

Was worth the gamble I suppose back in 2022 but he just never gave players or fans the calming presence of an NHL goalie.

Good work from Yzerman to offload him for nothing. Hopefully Holl/Tarasenko next and maybe a nice pick up at the deadline to get that playoff spot.

I remember people here told me he was better than Binnington and deserved to be the playoff starter. LMFAO, maybe I should dig up those posts

There were a handful of Blues fans that thought we traded the wrong goalie. I don't expect to hear much from those people in this thread.

Husso was incredible that one season though. There was a reason he started in the playoffs before turning into a pumpkin. Just goes to show the unpredictable nature of goalies.

That was probably during the 21-22 season where Husso had more starts and substantially better numbers such as his .919 save PCT vs. Binnington's .901. I think making fun of posts like that 3 years later where the tide has shifted would be very disingenuous because at the time, Husso definitely should've been the playoff starter.

This is true, though it just goes to show the risk of using sv% as the end all be all. He had a better season statwise that season but he was never the better goalie overall. But it is crazy how some goalies can go through a stretch where they look like a Vezina candidate and then later look like an average AHL goalie.

Hope you’re not serious. He’s no longer the Risto from 2-3 years ago. He’s turned into a very solid dman, who can handle the minutes playing with either Edvinsson or Seider. Probably Edvinsson. He’d help them a lot 5 on 5. He wouldn’t be cheap either.
I don’t see him with seider since they are both RH shots. Prefer a LH D that way chiarot could move down to 3rd pair keeping Ed-Jo together. Still he would be a solid addition for now and help going into next year to shelter ASP a little or to by time if ASP isn’t quite ready even though I think he is more than ready.

I know you have some sources inside the organization have you heard anything about ASP coming this year after his season?

It makes a lot of sense if you read what’s been posted in the thread

Ehh, I get the mindset that Anaheim wants an AHL upgrade to go on a run... But it does seem like they should've been able to get something for taking on $3.6M in buried cap.

I think the context here is that Anaheim is calling around to acquire a goalie though, it would be a different story if Detroit was actively trying to shed this contract. The Ducks will only spend 1.2M in cash to pay Husso's contract, and perhaps their only alternative option would have been to give up a pick for a comparable goalie (if there were even any available). To fill a temporary need for a #3 goalie for the remainder of the year, I'd rather just spend cash than any sort of asset.

It makes sense. An AHL playoff run means more valuable experience for prospects. I would hope Yzerman would have done the same if he was in that position. If GR would go on a deep run, I would think it would mean a lot to the Wing's prospects.

The Red Wings had Jack Campbell and Husso in the AHL, along with top goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa. As a result, Cossa was losing starts to the vets. Glad to see this resolved as a Cossa keeper league owner.

Cossa has played 29 games. Jack Campbell has played 8. I don't think there was a lot of concern with Cossa "losing starts" to Campbell.

Even if you combined Campbell and Husso's appearances, they still only add up to 21 games.

Making room for Pettersson. ;)

Seriously though; Looks like Gibson is as good as gone imo and Husso can play backup till seasons end on his expiring? Red Wings dump a cap anchor for value; (sort of)

Wait... Future Considerations means "nothing"????

Should we stop waiting for the other shoe to drop from the Walman trade?
...Nahhh, I'm sure it's coming any day now

It could have been me -- I could have been one of the Red Wings fans defending Husso, but you have to bear in mind:

a) I have some of the worst hot-takes on the board and I'm usually half in-the-bag when I type them

b) Husso actually was good, or at least meh, for a while, a couple of seasons ago

c) I wanted Husso to succeed because he seems like a good guy and his wife had their first baby recently

I'm guessing part of Stevie's motivation here was just to give Husso another chance with a change in scenery. I think Stevie actually cares about players as human beings.

I wasn't contesting any of that...

Yeah you have to think that if the Ducks had insisted on a pick bring attached, Detroit simply doesn't make the deal.
