Pierre Luc Dubois has had an obviously remarkable turnaround. The entire commentary about his game has shifted dramatically.

What other players can you remember that in one season seemed to have this seismic a shift. Verhaeghe comes to mind.

What say you?

Mikael Granlund went from being an under-performing cap dump in the Erik Karlsson trade to an almost ppg player for the Sharks and now Stars.
Granlund is another one with an up and down career, hitting 60+ points many times and then taking a dive in subsequent seasons

There's also that kid Mario Lemieux who only had 37 points in 1993-94 and then had 161 in his next NHL season :sarcasm:

I think the difference is that PLD had a narrative. And the switch flipped. He wasn't up and down, he was just down, moved to his 4th team because of disinterest and laziness. Now this?

As a Caps fan for 20+ years, I watch every game I can. What has impressed me most about PLD, given his supposed motivational issues, is how well he has accepted a shutdown role. His line is paired up against the other teams top line whenever Carberry can arrange it. His willingness to play the less glamorous role of a shutdown center has been a pleasant surprise.

Gustav Nyquist :

Torrid pace in his first full NHL season, before quickly fading away as a 40-45 points guy. 9 years later he suddenly explodes for one season only, then worst than ever the following one.

Josh Anderson last year : overpaid underachiever.
Josh Anderson this year : great depth player who embraces his role as a 3rd line forecheker and PK specialist.

I guess if you compare this season to last it is, but he's trending in the same way he did with Winnipeg for his 2 full seasons there.

Less goals, more assists and is on pace to beat his high in Winnipeg by 7 points in 9 more games.

Josh Morrissey though I would say he was ever bad, just not playing at the level he currently is. Went from a decent top 4 to top 10 in the league

Jonathan Drouin as well - seems like when good players find the joy in their game again the "magically" become what they should have all along. Goes to show what a little belief from your coaches and teammates can do.

The PLD one is not that surprising compared to Monahan and Granlund, who seemed to be on the steady slope of age related / injury related decline. I always thought PLD could do it if he felt like it, there was nothing wrong with him physically.
