Players who are low key cooked

Backlund’s legs are going. His hockey IQ is still fantastic and the effort is there but it won’t be pretty once he slows down more.

It's not November anymore. Since Dec 10 he has 19 points in 19 games, and pointed in 15 of them.
The other weird thing is that he sort of seems to be excelling as a center?

I thought he was cooked based on the start. He was certainly struggling to adapt to the speed/attack style Brunette seems to want the team to play. Which doesn't suit him at all (or practically anybody on the Preds roster). And of course there is also the Kucherov factor. But somehow, some way, Stamkos has found a way lately to rise above all that and is contributing quite nicely as a PPG #1C. Weird. But not "cooked" after all. :dunno:

Is Orlov still able to play those minutes? He seems like the natural place to shed that ice time from Burns (but I may be a biased Caps fan, for whom his peak is evergreen).

Orlov’s a good enough player to be on the top pair, but Brind’Amour is very deliberate about keeping D on their natural side. If Burns really forced his hand for a demotion, he would probably go with a lesser RHD on the top pair rather than have a L/L pairing and a R/R pairing.

Is there a viable option for Slavin to play with? Can Chatfield or someone else keep up?

Chatfield is quietly a pretty solid player but not quite good enough for top pair minutes. Same with Sean Walker, just a very mid player who would look bad if he skated top minutes. Burns at least has the (theoretical) upside, so they’re kind of stuck with him in that slot and will just have to hope he improves.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is on pace for his lowest points/60 of his career. It's basically at the rate of a 4th liner. Glued to McDavid and the top line offense is exclusively run through Hyman and McDavid
It's pretty common for RNH to alternate from decent 5v5 to horrible 5v5 production from season to season through his career.

He is still playing well outside of 5v5 scoring so saying he is cooked is pretty premature.

I declare Max Domi as totally cooked. He is absolute garbage. 3 goals. And for a playmaker, when is he gonna start playmaking? He is done, cooked, burned to a crisp.

bruins don’t have many guys who are cooked, they’re just remarkably untalented or overpaid

Tyler Johnson was absolutely cooked. Closest to him is maybe Carlo? He’s had a ton of injuries/concussions over the years and maybe it’s starting to wear on him because he’s been pretty bad this year imo. He was their best D last playoffs though so idk. Maybe it’s just a bleh half season

On the Wild, I have my eye on Hartman and Zuccarello.
  • Hartman has been better lately, but seemed a shell of himself for the first 3 months of this season, so we'll see how that develops. Maybe he was just hurt or in a funk.
  • Zuccarello still does great when fresh, and he's still got the vision and hands, but he is the slowest skater on the team. 5'8", slow, turns over a lot of pucks, but still goes point-per-game to keep the stat-watchers from noticing. Overall, he's an awesome value of offense vs. cap hit, but his age is starting to show, and has been for a couple years now. He's in the perfect situation in Minnesota to keep his career going, Kaprizov on his opposite wing most of the time, Rossi and Boldy on his line when Kap is injured.
