Yeah, the D is a mess. It's Doughty, a honest 4/5 in Martinez, and then a lot of not a whole lot. Anyone not named Forbort or Phaneuf are total wild cards. If just 1 of them becomes an every day top 6 on a competitive NHL team, at this point, it'll be a win. Then there are still 3 more spots to fill, assuming Martinez doesn't go anywhere, and that Forbort and Phaneuf simply aren't good enough.

Add all the talent you want up front, nothing is getting better until they fix the defense, and if Doughty plays the way he did this year again, they're 100x further away than if he plays great. Of course good defenseman are the rarest of commodities, so nobody is going to hand you one. Have to find one in the haystack like Muzzin, or have a risk like Mitchell work out great. Regehr wasn't necessarily cheap, and he was already 33 when he got here.

My Russian is rusty but here you go.

MOSCOW, April 29 - RIA Novosti, Semyon Galkevich. Olympic champion Nikolai Prokhorkin said that he had negotiated a one-season contract with the NHL club Los Angeles Kings.
Prokhorkin's contract with SKA expires on April 30. The 25-year-old forward was chosen by the “kings” in the 2012 NHL draft in the fourth round with a total number of 121. In the 2012/13 season, Prokhorkin played eight matches for the farm club, “Los Angeles”, but in the end his contract was not registered, as the hockey player left for the NHL, having a valid agreement with CSKA.

MOSCOW, April 29 - RIA Novosti, Semyon Galkevich. Olympic champion Nikolai Prokhorkin said he did not go to the Russian national hockey team because he decided to prepare for departure to the NHL and spend more time with his family.
World Championships will be held in Slovakia from 10 to 26 May. Prokhorkin was not called to the national team to prepare for the tournament. On Monday, the hockey player announced that he had negotiated a contract with the NHL club, Los Angeles Kings.
"It so happened that the season is over, and I decided to prepare for America, stay with my family. The season was not easy, there were ups and downs, the family was also tired, and I needed more time with my family. So to a greater extent a concerted decision, I wanted to be with my family, and therefore not in the national team now, "Prokhorkin told reporters.

really appreciate his willingness to take on guys 1v1 instead of just taking space and peeling away.. nice to see a guy skating with his head up too

that's one UGLY skating stride though
I could only watch the first minute. He doesn't look particularly fleet of foot in the KHL. I guess we'll see how he works out.

It’s curious that after all these years, he decides to sign a 1-year deal. Guess he’s not too confident coming over but to just “try it out”. Yeah I’m on the “we’ll see what happens” camp on this one.

Is he a ufa after one year? Hopefully he doesn't bolt and cash in with a more competitive team next year if he is any good.

I think due to his age, the max ELC he can sign is one year.

Wouldn’t be surprised to learn Porky’s contract include performance bonuses which could take him to the $1.5 - $1.8m range.
