Is it? If might have been last season, but Nylander's upside is much higher than Kopitar's.
Nylander is a fine investment, but as far as centers go Kopitar is still better than him even this season. Even if it was a bad season, Kopitar still had 60pts and still averaged 21:00 of ice time.

LMAO holy crap this board is remarkable,

As RJ says, it's a new shiny piece syndrome tapped with a what have you done for me lately.....

That and some who started following the Kings right around when they won the Cup and don’t understand what goes into building a team for the long haul because it seems so easy to win it all.

13 points in 43 games, isn't consistent..... BTW, I don't disagree with you, I think he can make a good 3rd line C, but he has to show more than what he has.....his last 5 games were good, but we don't know if that's the real Amadio, or the first 38 games were
I for sure understand your point Goldie, I'm just tired of watching our kids getting mismanaged.. now there is absolutely zero excuse not to play these guys and if they fail then we move on..

Muzzin and Iafallo is not a valid comparison. At age 24 Jake Muzzin was Drew Doughty's partner on a Stanley Cup championship team. Iafallo isn't even close.

But we got him for free so we should of traded him back then....lol

It's hard to come up with roster predictions for next season because of all the movable pieces we have.

I wouldn't be surprised if Martinez, Carter, Toffoli, and Lewis are all gone.

Alex Ifallo is no Jake Muzzin and what someone like yourself obviously dont seem to see is that he's played on the top line the last two seasons and maxed out at 33pts. You put Wagner in that role and im betting my paycheck he at least pots 25 goals, yet your crying over a guy thats pretty ****en irrelevant buddy..
Alex Iafallo is a good bottom 6 platyer.. guess what, we have about 20 of those

Iafallo is a 20 goal scorer on any other team but the Kings. He went from 9-15 goals. Looks like a good Pearson replacement to me as a middle 6 player at a much cheaper price. I am fine with him. Nodody is saying he is top line material, just not the player we should actively try to move because he was a free signing. Let him develop, if he hits 20 with better talent around him, then his value will be higher then it is right now and we can move him later.

At best unless we get a miracle steal of a pick somewhere in the draft this team will be made up of 15-20 goals scorers.... so get used to it

I think the problem that some have is that you don't simply trade AI away to make room for higher upside youth. Not when he's actually one of the younger players who actually produces at an NHL level on the roster. I'm sure that when Luc showed his slide with a bullet point that a problem with the current roster construction is that veterans were blocking the path of youth, he didn't mean Alex Iafallo was one of the vets doing so. Iafallo was on the damn depth chart filling a box! :sarcasm:

That being said, after the season the Kings just had, nobody should be safe from being trade bait, Iafallo included. But folks here are coming across like he's trash and easily replaceable with someone else in the pipeline, when it's obvious the Kings don't view him in that manner.

No one is saying that about Iafallo. What they are saying is Iafallo will not play a large role in any future success of the franchise, because the team isn't going to contend for a number of years. Iafallo cost the Kings nothing in terms of an asset to acquire. Turning him into a 2nd or 3rd round pick would be a good idea.

Probably not a 20 goal scorer on any team.

Iafallo has played an enormous amount of minutes with Anze Kopitar.

He is not a 20 goal scorer on any other team. Tampa? Sure. The list is extremely small.

Not one ever said actively, but if the situation arose where Podzolkin was to fall like Tarasenko did I said I would definitely pony up the 24th, 33rd and/or Iafallo to secure him.. If that kid slips out of the top 10 then it would be a race among many teams to move up into that 11-15 range.. Like I said previously, we would not only be picking a kid at #5 overall but also acquiring the #3 best player in this draft. Thats worth doing in my book as it sets us up long term.

I wish this thought of how everyone would go to another team and add more points would go away. Like, Doughty would have 30 more points on another team etc.

Most of the time, guys are who they are. Iafallo has not displayed much of any high-end finishing skill. He has a great motor and is a puck hound. He rode shotgun to Kopitar and Brown's best season and didn't put up 20.

You think we've all followed this team long enough to not just look to see if a guy is young, has an increase in goals/points and then just assume it will keep going up. That's Summer 2018 Blake right there except he also did it with old guys. It's just lazy.

Pearson had 1 point in 17 games for the Kings. That is a 5 point per season pace. He then scored 26 points in 63 games for other teams, a 34 point pace.

Using the same conversion rate, if Iafallo was traded he'd score 105 goals and 232 points in 82 games.

Its simple math, really.

Didn't get enough for him.

Most 2nd rounders and third rounders have upside of about where Iafallo is right now. Trading him does nothing, really. His cost vs. performance is really good, which is what this team needs at the moment.
It's scary we agree again on something.Never did we on Let's Go Kings lol.

~18% of all 2nd and 3rd round picks go on to play 200 games in the NHL, so Iafallo is basically the best case scenario. Iafallo is a cheap young player who has shown the ability to play up and down the lineup, he shows chemistry with damn near anyone. I think a lot of people are just being irrational about everything involving the team right now, so they are willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater. It's the same as how anytime someone is a little positive about the prospect pool, we have to hear the good doctors on here with their prognosis of Vilardi never touching the ice again.

I always forget, but is there a trade freeze right now until the end of the playoffs?

No, anyone can trade right now, the only rule is that players acquired by a team are not eligible to play in the playoffs. There's just not much demand to make moves until closer to the draft.
