Guys like Gauthier and Hajek should be on the Seattle's and Arizonas of the league. They need consistent time as bottom 6 guys OR get sent to the AHL and reinvent their games if they actually want to have an NHL career. Otherwise they can go to Europe and become Nigel Dawes.

I think the hardest thing for a pro is not being good enough to be a top player, not having the all around game to play in a lesser role and then have go reinvent yourself to be useful in that lesser role.

I was also encouraged seeing Panarin, receive the pass from Schneider (they have amazing chemistry btw), have time to make a play, and decide the shot was the best move. That’s more like the pre-pandemic Panarin. The shot is lethal, he has to use it to keep goalies honest. If he can bounce back 5v5 the sky is the limit. People forget he was a Hart finalist as a Ranger

Players don’t just become fighters at 24/25. That’s either in you or it’s not.

Kravtsov is as smooth as silk out there but one still wonders how he’s going to make some of that skill set work. From watching clips last year one thing he was doing was parking himself at times between the circles 15 or so feet out and burying some pucks from there but I’m not seeing him in preseason get to the front of the net all that much. The Rangers had several guys driving the net hard tonight—Gauthier, Hunt, Reaves, Rydahl, Brodzinski— mostly guys fighting for their lives I guess. Vitali wasn’t really one of them. I think the Rangers have made a commitment to him but I can see him struggling for a while. 30 points this year might be his ceiling even if he does play a lot with Trocheck and Panarin. It looks to me like there are still things he needs to figure out. The NHL is not the KHL.

I was going to use stronger language regarding Kravtsov's work so far but I guess I'll let your more nuanced take stand, mostly. But honestly, here's some things I do NOT see: commitment... courage... intensity... work ethic. The guy is staying out of dirty areas at all costs, getting knocked off pucks by love taps, shooting and passing without force or vision. I am stunned he could show up for a third year expecting to make the team and showing NO sign that he has absorbed anything from what's he's seen over all this time or understanding the meaning of his experiences so far. He'll probably make the team and get top minutes for a while in hopes he somehow finds enough of all the things that are missing... but I think he's gone by Christmas if not earlier. Disappointed and a bit disgusted.

Rydahl - He looks like a NHL player. Isn’t perfect but have seen enough from him that tells me he should stick

Vesey - really good positioning. Sneaky speed. Makes solid high percentage decisions with the puck. And he has enough stick skills to keep things flowing in the zone. He is more valuable the way he plays than any of the 4th liners not named Goodrow. They have nothing to lose giving him a shot.

Chytil - picking the puck up and moving with speed.

Panarin - Finding seams but also saw him getting to the middle of the ice a lot more. Not just crawling around the walls, willing to go into the deep end.

Jones - Needs to simplify his game. He’s really trying to showcase his offense. His play has been mixed, Jumping into the play often, more active in the zone than I thought he should be. Needs to reel it in and start small. But he’s showed well for the most part.

Kravstov - Sharper, showed good patience with the puck tonight. Needs to find his shot. Looks like it will be a little time before everything clicks but it appears he’s improving certain elements each game.

Miller & Trouba - On cruise control. Miller is gonna be great for us.

Goodrow - Appeared to be skating freely. Quiet game.

Gauthier - Can we make it official and end the experiment already? Kid has great tools but can never, ever finish. He’s had enough tries. Be done with it here.

Carpenter - Did he play? Didn’t notice

Reaves - I’m not even going to bother. We all know he’s going to play

One day about a year ago I went on lunch break to get one of those deep dish meat lovers pizzas and I almost threw up.

It’s not pizza anymore it’s a conglomerated mess of gluten, oil and subpar tomato shit.

You want real pizza you gotta find one of the places in the tri state area that have a wood fired or 900 degree brick oven like S. Egidio in Ridgewood NJ. Went there last night and the pizza is next level

Hajek and Gauthier are looking to enter seasons 5 and 4 as a ranger. That's incredible tenure for who they are

They're like those low-card, never used, wrestlers who somehow always manage to avoid yearly "budget cuts." And you look back and think "Damn, they've been employed for 10 years..."

Carpenter can be sent down and if not claimed, who cares? He makes salary cap that gets buried. You can still push Rydahl up and down whenever needed. This coming down to which one is waiver exempt is a stupid decision because in the end it doesn't even matter. Carpenter has been that bad. And if claimed, do we really care? We can call him depth at a needed position but that only gets you so far when players are out performing him.
