Sullivan’s system doesn’t work with this roster. They’re too slow to play the way he wants but he refuses to change. It’s obvious this will never work and the writing has been on the wall for 3 years. I feel if they haven’t fired him yet, they never will but I could be wrong

The fact that the players are old don't mean anything. Crosby and Malkin are still first line centers. Letang is still a top pair defenseman. They have decent depth. Blomqvist is a fine goalie. Sullivan is the problem

Crosby is such an insufferable idiot for re-signing with the Penguins when the writing was on the wall. Could have gone to the Avs and played 5+ more years of worthwhile games.

I mean the dude has 3 cups already and another one isn't going to change much for him legacy wise.

Maybe he has pride in being a one club man like Yzerman and Sakic.

Signing Karlsson was a pretty big mistake. Should have gone with a sid and Malkin led youth movement. Seems they refuse to rebuild as long as sid is still there. People always think it's the coach but it's usually the players.

Honestly, the team isn't very good. Even if they fire Sullivan, I don't see them making the playoffs.

Probably not this year. But that dude has had his fingerprints on the roster for the last several... er, half decade.

A new coach might actually value scoring, playing a system befitting of the roster - or even some physicality on the team.

Not sure why Dubas was such a priority when Sullivan continues to [seemingly] make all hockey decisions.

Should have been fired after the Montreal play-in. If they're looking for *THE* reason, there's just not going to be one. There's been several dozen that have come and gone. He needs to go because he's stale, doesn't fit the mold here anymore, and is not driving the bus towards any measure of success. Oh - and he's awful with youth players so even if you consider the 'future' - he doesn't really fit that either. A blowout or losing streak is arbitrary at this point. It's been his roster for a while now that has been mediocre or downright bad. Same recipe year in and out since 2018....only everyone is now older and the rest of the league/division got stronger.

This could get the man canned tbh. This is unacceptable results. Crosby must be crying at night a little bit at representing this mess

Gotta be rough starting like he and Malkin did and then.. this. They can play out of their minds every night and it won’t be good enough.

I've definitely lost a bit of respect for Crosby in all this. He's both defended Sullivan the last couple seasons AND been content to re-sign on a team that is going to waste his remaining productive years. You'd think he would have more pride than that.

I think Sidney Crosby has earned the right to spend his final years doing whatever the hell he likes.

He didn't sign because he really thought they had a chance. He signed to polish his legacy at one team. Instead of doing the usual awkward stint at another team.

At what point does Pittsburgh actually embrace a rebuild? Even if Crosby hangs around til he retires like Lemieux did they don’t have enough to do much aside from maybe stealing a wild card spot

I dont think one game factors into it much. I think he likes the city, likes the organization, likes the idea of being a one-team guy.
As he should.

Tough decision for elite athletes nearing the end of the road: Do you stay with the safe place that birthed you, or do you roll the dice on another great run / team somewhere else?

I was curious if the 1983-84 Penguins — a trainwreck club with arguably the worst post-mid-1970s' defence I've seen, and a team that tanked for Mario late in the season — ever allowed 6 goals against in a period.

They did, on Jan. 7th 1984, at home to New Jersey:

But on the road, they "beat" the current club by allowing 7 goals against in one period vs. Philly on March 22, 1984 when the towel had been thrown in:

Still, as far as home ice futility per period goes, the current Pens have company with the mighty 1983-84 line-up!

He's close with FSG. He negotiated his extension directly with them. It's absurd how much power he has in the organization.
Ahh, it’s all starting to make sense now. Boston guys love a good Sully. Every friend group needs one. Clearly John Henry & co. were missing the obligatory Sully required to go bar hopping.

Ah, yes, Boston - a strange, provincial place filled with a bunch of drunks.
