I always liked Tyler Ennis. I know he is small, but he was always noticeable to me, and can maybe add a little offense to the bottom 6. He is probably going to get paid a little more than we would spend though bc he had a good year.

I don't know why, not saying it is, but I think that would be a huge red flag against the CBA. I have a hard time seeing the NHL approving that. Not sure how you could structure it to not make it look obvious unless it was a low cost 1yr deal.

Tyler Johnson could be an upgrade for 3C that might be doable. Tampa doesn't have any leverage.

We're at 2.6 mil remaining with 11 forwards signed. I believe ZAR will miss at least the first few months, so we'll get his 1 mil relief there. But at that point we're at 10 forwards. Pens need at least 13 on opening night. So you gotta account for that $$$. Poulin and Legare I pray :)

It's an intriguing idea, but what are we giving Tampa and where is the cap space coming from? I suppose we can buyout JJ, but this organization hates buyouts. I'm losing faith we can package him with Murray to Ottawa or anywhere else, too.

As for T. Johnson, he is 30 and has 4 years left at 5 mil. I think he'll regress hard very soon, if not next season. I'm pretty skeptical about how he'd produce here, with a worse team than Tampa.

Can we stop trying to force offensive centers into the 3rd line role here please? He would be another Brassard, except with a higher cap hit and more years.

Not sure, but I believe he was a 3rd liner for the majority of the year. Got moved up because of the Stamkos injury.

That being said, I wouldn't have tons of faith in him either.

McCann is a defensive centre. Were you keen on how his line worked out? We won in 2016 with Bonino being an offensive 3C.

The biggest curse I see is the inevitable grammar police incursion when it's pointed out that you clearly can't be a human octopus with only 6 arms. Human Hexapus, if you please.

Look man, Superman didn't really pay attention in science classes and only took a BA in Communications because it seemed easy at the time, okay.

Superman. Feh. More like "Slightly Above Average But Still Kind of Dumb"-man.

I know it's beating a dead horse here, but why is McCann only a defensive 3C and Bonino... isn't? McCann way outpaced Bonino (and in significantly less games too!), and without Kessel.

I feel like people are either way overestimating the effect of the HBK line or, massively overrating what an offensive 3C should produce like.

But he's got two legs as well. And six plus two is somewhere around eight.

I don’t know why people are doing that. However, for me it’s less about offensive or defensive center and more about whether McCann is actually a center. Additionally, the guy has a good shot, but his playmaking leaves a lot to be desired. Bones was a very smart player and could dish the puck around better.

And not to sound like a lunatic, but had they signed Simon, he could have provided the puck handling and playmaking a line with McCann and Tanev needs. His skill set is holding onto pucks and could make plays with it. Again not crying they may be moving on, but now you you gave a bunch of straight line coal miners and Blueger as the only “crafty” player outside of top 6

Yeah, I get in terms of play styles and the omnipresent question as to McCann as a winger or a center. But honestly, in terms of production, McCann is really not that far off (and in some ways even more productive) than Bonino was at a similar point in his career.

Again, this is not to knock Bonino, who was an excellent 3C. I just don't know what else McCann can do in terms of production to validate his role as an offensive player, except maybe improve his playmaking. But I really think that's more of a function of his line than anything McCann will be able to do on his own.

As to the last point, we might still sign Simon, who knows? But yeah, having someone who can dish the puck to McCann so he can use his shot would be an excellent idea, but then again, I don't think Simon has played center much at all in NA, so I'm loathe to put him on that line.

Bonino was not an offensive centre here. He was given a lot of defensive zone draws. We don’t need a 5mil cap hit softy playing 3rd line centre.

This comes from Kingerski so don’t hold it in high regard but it does make some sense....

The other chatter is, if qualified, Murray may just decide to skip arbitration and accept the QO for a 1 year deal....because he would be a UFA at the end of the season and control his own destiny.

that at least would force JR’s hand in buying out JJ...

And it'd at least block a MAF return... for now.
