I think Getzlaf playing the Kessel role in the left circle is a lot better prospect for helping our PP than most other proposals I've seen.

Who are some potential acquisitions you think would help more there? And if you suggest anyone lefthanded, I'm going to chuck my laptop out the window.

I don’t care about the powerplay or mimicking the past.

The powerplay success regardless of who we add will stem from Crosby, Malkin and Letang getting their heads out of their ass.

You can put prime Kessel and Hornqvist with the best PP coach in history and it wouldn't matter as long as Crosby, Malkin and Letang are playing like this.

It is entirely their fault that the powerplay is struggling right now.

1) Marleau was just trash. Getzlaf is not.
2) Getzlaf adds size, nastiness, Cup success, and an RH presence on our #1 PP that Brassard did not.

I’m not sure you’ve watched Getzlaf in awhile. Nastiness is not the word I’d ever have used to described Getzlaf tbh.

It’s moot tho. Getzlaf doesn’t want traded and commands his decision if he gets traded.

Yeah the same way the 1st line's success wasn't dependent on Rodrigues leaving, but Crosby and Guentzel getting their heads out their asses. They just miraculously got their heads out of their asses the moment Rodrigues left and someone who could play the role competently was inserted. Funny how that works.

If you don't care about the PP, then that's just ignoring a big element of what makes a successful team. We're not good enough defensively or at ES offense to simply dismiss special teams that have taken a nosedive.

But I also take that to mean that there aren't an awful lot of other targets out there who could reasonably help the PP more than Getzlaf...for those who care about such things.

As usual, you’re latching onto a big name and hoping it solves problems. Surprised you weren’t a bigger JR fan.

Comparing Rodrigues to Rust who last year outscored noted key to the powerplay Hornqvist on the powerplay last year and the year prior is something you can do though.

Rust seems to be really putting it together. I’d leave him on PP1 for now. If he doesn’t work there, then look into a long term solution.

The powerplay isn’t working because of Sid, Malkin and Letang.

I would argue Zucker is wasted not being on it over Guentzel, but Sullivan seems to be dog housing the 2nd line (no surprise there) with no real solutions.

I'm not against getting a RH improvement over Rust for the PP. I'm not sure it's needed if the stars are willing to move and shoot, but maybe the right player helps shift their tendencies.

But I can't imagine a situation where a third line covers for Malkin's line not really being there in the post-season. A fix for one but the other doesn't make much sense to me.

the powerplay looked awesome last night, the difference was they hustled...it wasn't an easy task, the Caps pressed again but they moved the puck quickly got it behind the net and created chances to make them collapse...resulted in a few really good looks, can't ask for more...the second PP was too short but was succesful...it was always about skating and effort...

You’re not supposed to be commenting anymore on this argument @Peat. Get back to the 12 steps! Or whatever it is called in UK.

I just don’t see what Jake does on the PP when we know what Zucker does. Go watch his highlight packages in Minnie. He was the net front guy there.

Tbh. Sullivan is already pulling his usual bullshit with out second line.

The stars have never been natural PP players. It’s not silly to suggest we could use help there. But I think I’d leave it be to see if they can sort it out for now. Long term, we’re gonna likely need a solution IMO.

Letang has largely been one of the best powerplay defensemen from a production standpoint over the last decade.

Malkin and Sid were good on the PP when it was about instinctive play versus IQ play.

It’s why I’d prefer Rust and Zucker. North south game on the PP is what we need. Not more high IQ bullshit. It’s why Kessel worked well there because he’d just shoot 75% of the time.

I thought I was the Ryan Wilson burner account...

HockeyBuzz.com - Ryan Wilson - A bold long pants solution to the Penguins third line center problem

I don’t agree with this...seems like trying to bring in Brassard and Marleau and we know how those backfired...I don’t want to see that happen again...

Here's my problem with Getzlaf, everything that is being described about why we should want him is coming from him being the 1C in Anaheim with the team's top wings. He won't get that here. He will get 3C ice time and meh bottom 6 wings. What will he do then? Yeah, Getzlaf is good but at 35 I do not believe he can be the play driver that will overcome that hurdle. Maybe not unlike what happened with Brassard.

Sorry, but no. If we want to upgrade 3C, then we need to get a good 3C. Not a 1/2C that we can jam into 3C. We've tried that, didn't work.

Go do McCann for Bennett and be done with it.

Potential trade, I'm curious for opinions on it: McCann and DeSmith to NYR for Georgiev and Lemieux

My penis is erect and beginning to hurt but I don't think New York's has moved a bit and it's not due to the cold.

Theyve been productive in the past due to sheer skill. That skill has started to fade. They need to start to simplify like yesterday or bring in someone we can run the PP through.

These are some players I am thinking..

Jenner
Bennett
Zacha
Crouse
Heinen
Nieto

Jenner makes too much.

I like Zacha a lot.

Another low-key good add would be Cousins. very good 4th liner.

But Zacha would be my #1 target to be either pushing Blueger to 4C or himself being the 4C.

Wonder if You could do something like Pettersson, 2nd and McCann for Zacha and Palmeri.

If anyone needs a 13th - 14th forward, Pittsburgh should be your first call.

Trade Dumo and McCann.

Moving Pettersson/Dumo for a legit RH wing with a shot or for a 3C makes so much sense.

But you are banking on Matheson to be able to be Schultz 2.0.

Zacha is probably the least likely to get though given the Devils are competing with us.

They also like him a lot. But we need a 4C/3C badly.

Montreal is probably open to trading Danault. But he is a UFA after this year and wants paid.

I say offer McCann and a pick and see.
