Salary Cap: Pittsburgh Penguins Salary Cap Thread: A New Error?

I don't think any bigger trades will happen until A they need to upgrade to get going or B, they are sellers at the TDL. So far I just allow the new guys to see games and determine what is doable. Pens are a healthy D from having a real look as to what they are. If it is coaching, then make some adjustments. Sully has over three years to go so it is unlikely he will be let go this year.

When the D are fully healthy they have to trade one.

Oh I agree, and I hated the trade from day one. But so many people here say we can shelter him to the bottom pairing, and it’ll be fine, which I think is nonsense.

He was a reclamation project when we got him. To have someone at that salary cap hit and length of contract and be ok with him as a 3rd pairing D is laughable.

He’s a booger we need to fling on someone else.

Why do you think I didn't get the job?

But for real:

My preference is to keep Zucker. But I don't know how this new management functions.

So I considered the proposals people were throwing out involving Zucker. My preference is to keep him. And I had already talked to the EDM board who have semi-interest in Dumoulin. And I think the Pens should sell high on Dumo ASAP. I linked the two together and saw an elite LW/C that they have. That's the basis for my trade.

The issue isn’t really the players. More so the fact RNH is a UFA and likely asks for 7 mil+ and Larsson is not good.

I do think that during the off-season, all bets are off. If this team misses the playoffs, or is out quickly in the 1st round again, we'll see Letang shopped heavily and Sully fired.
I’m not sure how they justified keeping Sully after the Habs series. 1-9 playoff record over the last 10 playoff games alone should have sealed the deal.

The first defenseman to go needs to be Dumo for the best futures we can get. We got way too many middle of the road defenseman getting paid too much. This herd needs culling. Thanks JR!

I'd have cleaned house after the Isles series, personally. We were more than a calendar year into JR's absurdity and Sully had guys sleepwalking through games.

Aren't you guys giving up on Dumo a little too quickly, after years of good service?

This is the sample size that has led people to this conclusion:

- 5 games in March after returning from a 3 month injury. Two of those games he was strong in.

- 4 playoff games after another 5 months between games. I liked him just fine in game 2.

- 7 games this year, in which 2 of them he was pretty solid in. Again, 5 months between elimination and the Flyers season opener. No exhibition games.

I didn't know our defense corps was so strong that we can throw away established 1st pairing shutdown D-men so easily, who only cost 4.1 mil.
I mean yeah, injuries are a big concern but isn't it still too early to cash our chips in? Don't you wanna see more?

Agreed that major changes needed to be made across the board after the Isles series. The fact that Sully is still here is pretty pathetic at this point. I figured the team had some allegiance to him after 2 cups, but the fact they didn’t fire JR or Sully after the Habs debacle is absurd.

What is it going to take to get bozo the coach fired???

I think it’s probably more of a numbers game at this point. Riikola, Ruh, POJ, Matheson, Letang, Pettersson, Ceci, Dumo, and Marino are too many dmen under contract.

Riikola, Ceci and Ruh prob have little to no value, and Matheson is unmovable. You can’t move Marino or POJ due to their ages.

Factor in his lower body injuries and AGE and re-assess

I don't think he'll be fired in-season, regardless of the team's record, because Hextall and Burke will want to look for their own guy at their own pace. Unless they like Vellucci, which I doubt because they probably have no clue who he is. Sully will be gone this off-season, pretty sure. The argument that ownership wants to keep him around because they don't want to pay him doesn't make sense to me. Burkle's a billionaire, with a B. Dude just bought MJ's Neverland Ranch for $22 million just because he thought it'd be neat to have (f***ing weirdo). I doubt he cares much about Sullivan's contract. Dude probably barely gives a shit that he owns the team at all at this point.

I mean, if our management's purpose is to restock the prospect pool while remaining competitive, trading Dumoulin is a no brainer IMO. Maybe wait to see if POJ can handle regular duty and Matheson can continue to look like a capable #4 if you want to salvage a playoff run of some kind this year.

Dumoulin has significant lower body injuries in three consecutive seasons and is now at 30 with a bloated contract. Same reason you moved on from Hornqvist and Kessel and will likely move on from Rust next season.

I wouldn't say Larsson is not good, he just plays for Edmonton.

The team wouldn't be looking for him to be some savior of the top 4, just help keep goals from going into their net from the 3rd pairing and PK.
