Montreal does not get the first chance to claim him on waivers. This is one of those misunderstandings that just won't die.

It's tough to get these myths to die when the media are making the same incorrect assumptions :help:

When an obscure rule drastically changes in a cba renegotiation its often the case where people who knew the old way never realize it changed.. Also people mix up different pro sports rules that are simular...

It happens a bunch... You will hear pro football guys talk about the halo rule when the nfl abolished that decades ago cause college has it... You also hear mlb and nfl rfa and ufa and waiver rules applied to the nhl and vice versa...

Why bother? MAF or Murray will probably be injured by the end of November anyway.

Fwiw, I don't believe that rule has changed in the NHL, at least not in the CBA era. The NHL By-Laws on waivers that predate the CBA era implemented waiver priority the same way.

I'm thinking they hold onto Condon as a backup to Murray, if they can convince Fluery to waive his NTC. If not, they'll trade Murray and keep Condon as backup, as it is very unlikely Murray wouldn't get claimed by LV in the expansion draft. Better to trade him and get something for him than lose him for nothing.

Pittsburgh doesn't want to put Condon back on waivers BECAUSE Montreal gets first chance to reclaim him....

No other teams except the Pens put a claim in for Condon....So if Pens don't trade him and put him on waivers,Montreal can reclaim Condon which i think they would do .

No question Montreal reclaims Condon. Our goaltending in St. John's would be outstanding, which we need because the team sucks. Plus, he's our 3rd stringer, which we also need.

If Pittsburgh waives him, I'm positive the Coyotes will put in a claim. Dave Tippett has done nothing but publicly **** upon Louis Domingue. In fact, if Louis is waiver exempt, I could see the Coyotes offering him to the Pens in trade for Condon. I like LD and think he's fine. Tippett seems to believe every loss this season is 100% Domingue's fault. Which is ridiculous, but here we are.

Domingue is no longer waiver exempt. 2015-16 was his last season of exemption.

To Canes:
MAF

To Kings:
Condon

To Pitt:
Lack 50%
NYR 2nd
LAK 4th

Why would the Canes want to pay 9.0 for goaltenders and also spend more eating 50% of Lack's? That puts it over 10.0 on backstops alone.

I cannot see them doing that, but a deal around Ward for MAF is more plausible since timelines match up and the Pens could afford just over 7.0 for Murray/Ward combo for a couple seasons.

Would be strange but cool to see the the goalie who's been with his NHL team longest traded for the goalie who's been with his NHL team second-longest.

Fleury is in his 13th season and 11th full season with the Penguins. Ward is in his 12th season and 11th full season with the Hurricanes.

Lundqvist and Rinne are tied with Ward at 12 seasons.

They really won't. Fleury has a limited NTC, not a full, so it's not even certain that he'd have to waive depending on the deal.

After next season both Lack and Ward would be off the books and we have the entire cap from the floor to max to use. Why not use that advantage and get a goalie like MAF?

I'm ignorant on some of the rules but wouldn't Montreal then have to waive Condon if they wanted him to play in St. Johns?

If they were the only team to put in a claim they could send him to the AHL. At this point they'd be last in the waiver priority so there'd be 0 risk. If he got to them nobody else made a claim so no risk of getting him and not being able to send him down. Of course that could change depending on the timing of him being waived if he did get waived eventually.
