Really? He's given away a decent-ish player with one year left for pretty much nothing. It's ok, but it's not like he's robbed anyone here.

If Filpulla had three years left maybe, but it's only one.

Filppula had a NTC, removing him saved the $5M and opened up another forward slot to protect. He played this perfectly.

Considering we kept getting told we'd need to package a prospect or pick with Flip, this is a solid move.

Feel free to dismiss. to dump a forward clearly on the downward slope with a NMC on a $5M cap hit coming into an expansion draft when teams are needing slots to protect their future for a 7th round pick is masterful.

So Yzerman cleared 5M in cap and an expansion draft slot for a conditional 7th. Noice.

It was a great deal for Tampa and Philly.

As a Flyers fan, I'm thrilled. It works well for us (I know TB thinks it's a still, but we needed another guy like Fili for 1 year).

And we're def not trading with the Pens.

If he kept that decent-ish player he was for sure losing one of Johnson, Palat, or Drouin. He did very well here.

I assume Hextall didn't want to trade him to their rival and is now pissed at Yzerman?

Yeh I totally get that but he's essentially only given a player away for free.

He may as well just have waived him and saved the 7th.

First - you cannot bury 5m in salary. You can only hide 900k of it. Second - Flip has a NMC which means he can't be waived. Third - Flip vetoed two trades today (reportedly) - he probably would not have waived to be exposed in the expansion draft. Fourth - even if he was exposed to the expansion draft, there is no guarantee that LV would pick him, which means we would be in this exact same situation come June of trying to deal Flip.

This was a brilliant move by Yzerman.

Is it an NTC or NMC? People are saying both.
