fair deal just based on his playoff performances. if he keeps up his current ppg during the regular season this will be a steal. he should have waited until the season was over to sign.

But using a HF poll where most fans who don't follow the Pens believe Guentzel's basically a third liner without Crosby isn't exactly going to be a neutral measurement.

Using a HF poll for anything is stupid because HF doesn't have the credibility to make an analysis by popular vote

It's a glorified popularity contest, because no one here would take the time to make informed decisions on polls they can vote on immediately. Like in the Guentzel vs Larkin thread, there are stats posted Guentzel is a good bit better offensively than Larkin and nothing to support Larkin being better, but Larkin is winning 9-4.

Probably paying a bit more based on who he plays with and riding the percentages a bit, but he's a good, young player and you aren't going to get those guys locked up much under a 6 mil AAV anymore.

He's doing all his damage at 5v5. Most his playoff points are 5v5.

Most his points this year is 5v5. Imagine if he got 1stPP time all year.

So the argument that he is a product of Crosby falls short. Because he would have #1PP Time on most teams and put up similar numbers

Good deal with the potential to be a great deal for the team. Can’t have enough clutch playoff performers.

I hope Tkachuk cools off a bit and his numbers are similar to Guentzel. Could help us signing him for less than $7.5. Good signing though.

Solid deal for both sides. 6m was the over-under I was looking at. Anything less was a steal, anything more an overpayment. This works just fine.

You should probably track the conversation then because I said multiple times to create a separate thread and the Pens fan wanted to keep it going in here.
i have a few of them on my ignore list so i didn't know about this.

it doesn't make my post incorrect though.

Some risk, due to the “Crosby effect” making mediocre wingers look great... until they don’t have Crosby as their centre.

However he is young and has looked great this year, so there is also the chance he really outperforms this contract.

A bit of a high-risk, high reward contract,
but for the information we have right now the AAV seems fair for the Penguins.

Uhh no. The "risk" of waiting came with the "risk" of him asking for 7m. There is no risk with this contract - at least not any more then any other standard contract.
