I honestly do not think that Kuhnhackl plays at this point when healthy. If anything, it would be Rowney for the PK duties. Otherwise with what we've seen from Simon/ZAR I think they stay in.

Then I hope JR pulls off at least one more move for a PK guy because Rowney's simply not a regular NHLer. I'd prefer Kuhnhackl playing over him, and that says a lot considering I'm not a big fan of Kuhn's.

And look at those mad scoring skills of Vincent Dunn.

I guess that Billy G had to be thrown a bone to accept the trade of Reaves.

A grande total of 46 minutes over the last 5.5 years. Malkin has 30 minutes and Crosby (iirc) 150 minutes over that same span. So no, not really. Could he? Perhaps. But I think we'll see CR there unless we get someone else.

I think Brassard knows his role here and that he has to play a bit more of a defensive role. I think PKing is something anyone can do..get him on the PK for the rest of the year and see how he looks. Don't wanna waste a lineup spot on Rowney. Brassard looked defensively responsibly in the Ottawa series. Maybe playing in that Ottawa system would make a transition to "checking" centre easier.

Also, Rust has taken PK faceoffs. But im not sure if he can win them consistently.

If we keep Sprong I'd love to see for at least a few games a
ZAR-SID-SPRONG LINE

I don't like Sheary on the right side. That line has a sniper (albeit somewhat unproven), a guy with Size who is always on the right side of the puck and goes to the net in ZAR. And then you have one of the best playmakers in league history centering them. At least give it a look, I think it has all the necessary components to be a very formidable line.

A guy like Brad Richardson could be a cheap option to acquire, if JR/Sully want to bring in a decent 4th liner who can PK.

But yeah, I think Brassard will be used on the PK here, even if he didn't get many PK minutes elsewhere. It makes more sense to do that than to dress Carter friggin' Rowney just to accomplish the same thing.

I think we see Guentzel PKing a bit more and Sid taking a few more faceoffs.

Sheahan - Hagelin
Sid/Guentzel/Brassard - Rust

Something like that. The only issue is the injury risk.

Yeah you and @Honour Over Glory were big on not losing Sprong in that deal.

He may go still (now or in the off season) but it might be a more like for like type of deal.
I still don't think he's gone in the off season or at the deadline.

I would be ok with JR going after another Oleksiak type of fixer upper on D, in a more gritty variety type to add on.

Is it really more of a defensive role though? He's gonna be playing with Guentzel and Kessel most likely. It's the HBK role of eating up the easy matchups.

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes after a depth guy in the Cullen mold. Veteran C who brings some leadership/faceoff ability and plays well on the wing.

I know this is late to the party, but I didn't realize how good a season Brassard's actually having. Considering how shitty Ottawa's offense has been this year, I was surprised Brassard's near 40 points and almost at 20 goals. That's pretty impressive. Surpassed his goal total from last year and only 1 point of his points total, in about 20 less games.

And who plays defense if we're putting Guentzel, Brassard and Kessel together? I mean that's one hell of a line (at least in theory)... but surely we can afford to spread the wealth around a little...

Brassard was matched against Sid last time we played Ottawa. He’s not a guy who needs hidden.

Skimmed through some of the thread but cant find anything on what our current Cap status is.

With Cole (2,1) and Reaves (1.1) gone and Brassard (3) back does that make the trade effectively cap neutral? And if so how much wiggle room do we have for another deal?

Can anyone fill me in on Dunn and Lindberg? Are they hopefuls or longshots to make the big league?

We have a little more cap space plus whatever excess we had before. We can make another deal for someone with a low cap hit or if we move Hunwick/Sheary it can be bigger.

Currently cap friendly says we can trade for about 2 mil (AAV I assume) then it’s dollar for dollar for anything above that
