Doesn't sound like Pens fans are optimistic about their coach either lol but if Tomasino gets ice time with decent linemates and is allowed to actually play like a scoring winger I think he'll be a solid NHLer.

In a system that is a disaster defensively for a player that isn't good at digging in the corners or defensively, this should end well. Sullivan is an absolute f***ing moron of a coach.

I'm a big fan of these types of deals, don't get me wrong.... Just very pessimistic that the coaching staff will even experiment with young players in important roles.

I said earlier that if this season isn't the season to give extended looks for young players in the system... Then it's time to move them out for picks as they will never get an opportunity here. Poulin, Puustinen, Tomasino, Puljujarvi, Glass should all be getting some time in the top 6 or in roles running their own line if a C, and if it doesn't work, great... They had a chance, if it works, why wasn't it tried earlier?

Honestly I feel bad for the guy because he keeps getting coaches who don't want to play young guys to start with and if you don't run around like a chicken with your head cut off hitting everything that moves then you aren't doing it right.

I felt Fabbro would do well in Columbus, just seemed like a decent situation for him, sadly for Tomasino I think he is just going to get more of the same.

I think on the right team and given a chance to actually play some steady minutes with some talent he would probably come around and do well. Sadly for him he has always been stuck on the 4th line or with that type of player.

Yeah, the difference with Tomasino and Tolvanen to me is that by the end of his time with the Preds, Tolvanen was actually playing a pretty respectable physical and back-checking game. The Preds didn't seem to recognize this or acknowledge it in any way. But nevertheless, Tolvanen had adapted to the point where he absolutely could fill a bottom-6 role instead of needing to be a top-6 sniper only.

Tomasino is a little bit different, because he really hasn't embraced any of the change that management has tried to force on him. His game hasn't changed one bit. He wants to be a streaky offensive generator, and he has the skills to do that. He could be a 25/25 kind of supporting top-6 offensive player anywhere if you just parked him in that role and didn't mind that he wasn't throwing hits, killing penalties, or defending leads late in the game. He was ready to fill that role at 20 when he first stepped in. He is still ready to do it today. But it isn't easy to find the team or coach in the NHL who is really looking for that.

In Nashville, our coaches would rather play a 10/10 kind of veteran AHL tweener, or chase old declining UFAs to fill that lineup spot. I think it's the frustration that the Preds aren't finding any better results with their choices than they would just keeping and utilizing a young (albeit slightly imperfect) player. Tomasino isn't going to set the world on fire, but he'd be as good or maybe a bit better than the options we're picking instead. He hasn't done things to make any of us real fans of his. It's more that we aren't enamored with the alternatives we've been given, and frustrated with the ongoing waste of 1st round picks.

Our tweeners aren't actually playing that terrible (outside that initial stretch--I think all of them have multiple ES goals, which can't be said of our top 6). Our top 6 has been awful.

So far it ain't been that great. His coaching career was definitely better than his GM career so far.

Sullivan doesn't even play the young players on the Pens. Unless it's 4th line usage or if they're lucky, 3rd line. So Tomasino might get lucky and tried in the top 6 but chances are they put Beauvillier back to the left wing and drop Rust back to Malkin which means tomasino would be on the 3rd line RW or 4th line. Puljujarvi have been great and he's continuously shit on by Sullivan.

He's only worth a 4th now. He would've been worth more during the offseason when teams have time to figure out their roster and slot him into their lineup.
