Matt Murray won the Penguins two cups. I will give you Jarry but leave Murray out of it.

Matt Murray did not win the Penguins 2 cups, he was part of a team that won 2 cups, and he admitted himself he was nothing special during these runs. (if you dont believe Murrays own words, then what do you believe?) And on top of that it was Matt Murray The II that Dubas put his hat on, that was riddled with injuries and had failed massively since the Pens last cup run!

That boy getting bought out this summer

Pens have two promising goalies in Blomqvist and Murashov, both of whom should be playing a league above where they are right now. I'm assuming they'll start running Ned and Blom 1A/1B, but this is Blom's opportunity to take the reigns.

I mean, I agree with the initial sentiment, but who cares about Murray’s words - if he was less realistic, he would have just been a worse at evaluating, but equally mediocre (at best) at tending the net. Arguably the worst glove to have ever won a cup.

Murray was about 51% they won. Don't kid yourself. He posted a 0.930 and a 0.922 sv%.

Matt Murray was a f***ing awesome 2 time cup winning goalie that stole multiple playoff games.

Jarry has always been a f***ing dork.
Yeah, but the question was not what Murray was once was during a short time span it was what he was when Dubas picked him, which is a point many seem to be missing :-)

The common factor in both cases is that Dubas is handing out contracts based on "hoping" that something will materialize from someone performing badly for a good while! And yes there is a difference between Murray and Jarry past, but ultimately it comes down to long lasting form and not a flash in the pan!

I agree that Murray is a good cookie, he was very honest about his success and shortly there after struggles, I recall reading pretty long and in depth articles about that and he seemed like a stand up guy! And it was a shame what happened with his body that could not sustain him playing hockey in the NHL, that must have been really painful! So I am not having a go at Murray, just Dubas judgement!

I never really understood why desmith was only getting 1.25m in Pittsburgh and jarry was getting so much more. Desmith had some stellar seasons in Pittsburgh. Got the short end of the stick on his career earnings.

From what I understand DeSmith had some attitude issues which hindered his ability to get paid.

A goalie could have a 60 save shutout and he would probably still give credit to the team in front of him.

He literally said it himself that he was nothing special because he thought he had been given perhaps too much credit and also it was putting unrealistic expectations on him!

are you new to hockey?

I hate that every Pens transaction thread never ends up being about the player and always revolves around Dubas. I just wanna read some informative commentary on the roster move and potential implications.

Actually I really like this thread as a Pens fan for all the negative revisionist history from all those who are obviously either not from our fan base and/or obviously don't know that much about hockey.

In 2017 everyone was ready to ship MAF to Timbuktu because Murray had been so spectacular during the 2016 Cup run. Everyone had given up on Fleury and then he had that miraculous series against Washington. Apparently some seem to think that because of what happened after MAF left Pittsburgh that they should have kept him but that was nowhere near the sentiment at the time, even MAF was ready to go as indicated by what he had painted on his mask. When exactly will be the next time that we see a rookie win two Cups before his rookie campaign ends?

Murray was on the rise and MAF was seen as his past his prime after the 2017 Cup, a year later those narratives got flipped on their head. Same thing with Jarry after his first All-Star selection, he kind of went down the tubes pretty quickly despite his flash in the pan hot streaks from time to time.

Should we trust Wayne Gretzky when he talks about his level and skills as a hockey player? Not that I'm comparing these two guys as players. Just that statements like that mean absolutely nothing and are in no way any kind of facts.

Dubas is an idiot whose entire mediocre career has been propped up by inheriting three straight years of homerun draft picks that preceded his GM tenure.
