Don't see any similarities at all. Barring injury (which has been Blackwood's nemesis), he should be a backbone for Colorado.

To this point Mackenzie has played behind some incredibly deficient defensive teams. His success with the Avalanche should not come as a surprise.

Blackwood is literally the perfect example. He has had a middling career, had like 1.5 hot years and got a huge contract out of it.

I'd be downright shocked for him to not end up the next goalie in that group.

I posted this on the Pens board but figured I'd put it here too.

Looking at the goaltending class this summer and the number of teams who need a back-up, moving TJ at 2.6M really shouldn't be that hard. There are more teams that need a goalie then there are goalies better than TJ at 2.6M.

The best FAs that might make it there are Samsonov, Rittich, Georgiev, Lyon, Vladar and Allen. Nothing to really get too excited about.

A number of teams need goalies;

CAL: 37M in cap space and Vladar is a UFA.
CAR: .7M in Cap space and Andersen is on IR and a UFA.
CHI: 9M in Cap space and could send back Mrazek.
DET: 4M in Cap space and Husso and Lyon are UFAs.
EDM: 4M in Cap space and TJ would be an upgrade on Pickard.
LAK: 11M in Cap space and Rittich is a UFA.
NSH: 13M in Cap space and and have a kid backing up and Trots is an awful GM.
NJ: 2M in Cap space and and Allen is a UFA.
OTT: .8M in Cap space and Forsbers is a UFA.
PHI: 2.8M in Cap space and all their goalies stink.
SJ: 10.7M in Cap space and Vanechek and Georgiev are UFAs.
UTA: 11.7M in Cap space and Vjmelka is a UFA.

Plus, now that he's cleared waivers, he can be traded and the new team can stash him in the AHL w/o having to waiver him.

I'd be surprised if the Devils would want to commit 3 years to Jarry even at half his cap hit. They could re-sign to Allen to a shorter deal, promote Nico Daws, or aim for a cheaper veteran backup. Even with a rising cap, Luke Hughes' next contract will eat up most of our available space.

I 💯 believe a team could be interested in a 50% retained Jarry.

Roll the dice and see if a roughly 2.7 million Jarry for 3 years is worth. With a signing bonus paid and he is paid less in the last 3 years. Only roughly 11/2 = 6.5 million owed. That is pretty good for some teams.

Ottawa will 100% be running Leevi as it's back up next year.

That's a good point I didn't think about. If they wait till after July 1st when they pay his bonus, the actual amount due to him is much less than the cap hit, which could be appealing to a team with lots of space but doesn't want to spend as much actual money.

Hawks don’t need a goalie. What are you talking about? If we sent Mrazek back we maybe would but why the hell would we do that? We have to put soderblom on waivers if brossiot gets healthy.
