Exactly what are you envisioning Jarry doing that would make any end of year buyout untenable? Hazing rituals? Devil worship?

The Flyers had an actual toxic player in Anthony Deangelo and bought him out when the time came without any discernible damage.

Whatever make-believe scenario you're imagining, it'd either be fine to buy him out at year end, or it would be so bad that it would constitute breach of contract and the Pens could terminate the deal.
I am not suggesting the Pens buy him out now. I am simply pointing out how the situation can get worse. Its a fallacy to say it can’t get worse. Because it can get worse!

It can't get worse in any way that would change the easy solution. Once you've hit buyout territory, the freefall has hit terminal velocity.

If you delay on a buyout because you hold out hope he will regain form, and in turn he poisons the young developing players in the AHL.... Then you inevitably buy him out later....

Well you made it worse!

In what situation has this ever happened in less than a year, in the 125 year history of the NHL?

Name one.

I am sure it has happened. But even it if hasn't, it doesn't mean its can't ever happen. I am just saying that "it can't get worse", is just a hope and not a stated fact.

A meteor could hit earth and nullify all human existence too but unless its actually happened it isn't a particularly useful discussion point.

Your right, your meteor argument is fruitless and pointless.

Players meanwhile have become disgruntled after demotions and at time disruptive. That's not earth shattering.

Let's talk about it more when you can gve a single example of your hypothetical Jarry situation happening, ever.

Until then, there's no practical downside to waiting to buy out Jarry until after next year.

Pens have plenty of cap space. We arent wasting assets to move him. If someone wants to toss a serviceable skater who is overpaid our way then sure. Otherwise he can chill in the AHL collecting his paycheck.
I would think you could part with one of the four 2nd round picks in 26 or 27 to move him but you could just get value out of Ned and play Jarry too.

Sounds good, will do once you accept that the situation could feasibly get worse!

Not only was DeAngelo toxic for entirely different reasons (he was not demoted), there's zero evidence that his toxic attitude had any effects on the development of young players in Philly before being bought out.

And that's the worst case scenario anyone has mentioned.

Still waiting on that example.

You realize it happen in our own organization before, right? Tom Barrasso throwing a chair at JS Aubin for having the audacity of being young and playing the same position with better stats.

I don’t think Jarry would get toxic because I don’t think he cares enough. He’s getting paid and will get to retire to his farm one day whether that’s sooner or later. That’s all he cares about, IMO. That’s the biggest part of his problem.

Barasso wasn't sulking because he was demoted, he was just an asshole.

And if you don't think its a possibility with Jarry, I'm not seeing the issue with waiting for a buyout. By all accounts he's a good guy and he's playing competent hockey in the AHL. This isn't someone who needs to be excised at all costs for fear of poisoning the well.
