After the season, assuming no goaltenders in the flames' system show they're worth protecting. From the pens POV, I guess Brouwer (4.5 x 3) looks better than Fleury's dead cap ($1,916,667 x 4) after buying him out.

This would be a bad trade for Calgary. They lose a guy who has been easily one of their best players this season for a goalie, when we have Gillies, who will probably be in the NHL next season. Plus if Johnson continues this play, no way we don't resign. Then we have Elliott and McDonald in the fold, it just wouldn't make sense.

So much this. I'd rather just go trade Fleury for a goalie straight up. The Pens really only need a skilled top-9 winger and Brouwer isn't that. The Pens also probably won't have to buy out Fleury.
He has an NMC, thus will have to be protected over Murray. They'll have to move him in some way if he doesn't waive his clause.

What the hell flames team have you been watching? Brouwer has been nothing special at all.

On the actual proposal. Chad Johnson is looking really good right now, and he's had a history of looking really good. Not sure Fleury does much for us in the long run with Gillies when we could use Johnson as a stop gap starter, or maybe Elliot will pick it up, or we could go after Bishop in FA, or we could... You get the point.

We just signed Brouwer. He's not great, but why would we trade a fresh signing? That says "Hey do you wanna sign a multi year contract that includes; 1 year in Calgary, 4 in another city?'

Just let Pittsburgh lose Murray. Fleury is nothing special and I wouldn't trade anything for him. Flames don't have the same team in front of him like Pittsburgh does. So we should be keeping the quality players we do have.

Fleury's NTC only covers a list of 12 teams he won't accept a trade to without waving, I'm not at all worried about being able to move him.

The NMC part of his contract only prevents him from being put on standard waivers...unfortunately in the eyes of the NHL all NMCs are created equal in regard to the expansion draft, even though Fleury could be dealt to one of 17 teams today without being asked about it.

From Calgary, would rather Klimchuk and some picks. Same as before.

Yes, I'm very well aware of the Penguins contract situation. The Pens won't have to buy him out because they'll most likely be able to trade him. I don't see any legitimate reason for why the Pens can't trade him.

The Flames need to solve their goaltending situation. CJ is playing great but I think him/Fleury would really solidify our net for the first time since Kipper. Plus I don't think Gillies is ready to be handed the keys next year. We have enough prospects we can afford to give a few away.

Fleury solves absolutely nothing; he'd be worse than Elliott here. That's a horrible overpayment by Calgary.

Yes, let's add a goalie constantly criticized for being mentally weak to a team that appears to lose all confidence when things start to go bad. What a fantastic idea.

You need a quality starter a hell of alot more than we need Brouwer.

3.18 and .907 on a Stanley Cup team make him a quality starter? Sure thing. I'll gladly keep Brouwer who made a point of signing in Calgary and the 2 goalies that wanted to be in Calgary over Fleury at that price. I'd have no problem with Fleury but any Pens fan that think he brings back anything of significant value is dreaming.

Regardless of his play so far this year, Brouwer is farm from a third liner. That's one heck of a team if you can afford to use a guy like him on your 3rd line.

Well uh, the Pens have done pretty well recently...

No need for Brouwer and he doesn't fit our team identity, which is based so much on speed.

Rather keep Fleury.
