Nice win.
It's nice to have some wins, though I am also really not liking the fawning over Kelly.
On the one hand, sure, Shelton was a deserved scapegoat (overdue if anything), but the turn to overly praising Shelton is only going to serve to give cover for the more important structural issues with the team: Cherington/player development/offense and Nutting's cheapness.
But whatever, it's basically just vibes at this point so it's nice to see competitive baseball. Also nice to see some small success for Davis.
I'd bet he's a dead man walking, but it doesn't make sense to keep him around at this point, he's not going to suddenly become competent.I don't think Cherington survives unless they better the 76 wins. GMs don't get fired at this time of year.
Even in the wind, the offensive ineptitude is so staggering and it is recognized that he is as culpable as Nutting there.
Yeah, I think that's probably right. What I worry about is a decent enough finish to the season that somehow still gives him cover. I haven't really looked at what that would be overall.I don't think Cherington survives unless they better the 76 wins. GMs don't get fired at this time of year.

What might save him is if the bats he drafted Davis Johnson and Griffin look like they are going to be good. Jebb in AA Yorke starting to hit in AAAYeah, I think that's probably right. I don't think he should be fired right now, just because that doesn't make much logistical sense. I don't really have any good answers for how else that should look (i.e., presumably since there's not going to be a full rebuild just yet, the status of trading Keller is pretty tricky, and whether that should be left to Cherington if he's a sitting duck is at minimum an open question).
For the record, I don't think he's a sitting duck just yet, but I think the end of the season will loom large for what actually happens. It's possible that any "big piece" decisions at the deadline will just be dictated by ownership, but I guess in theory, if BC thinks he is trying to audition to keep his job, it might mean he is less willing to move any of the bigger pieces, assuming he has a say.
