The Pirates are trying to do a speed run of turning themselves into a joke this year. It's April 6th and they're already getting dunked on.
What do you mean "turning"?
They are and have been the biggest joke franchise in possibly all of sports. Only the Browns rival them.
How can this team get lower? Up 3 runs, have 2 outs in the 9th with only one guy on, and allow them to tie and likely lose.

While the win and treading water are nice, the implosion continues to highlight what an idiot Ben Cherington is. He seriously went into a season claiming to win and banking on David Bednar and Colin Holderman at the back of his bullpen. Bednar whose fastball regressed/got exposed and Holderman who has persistent mental fragility. They let Chapman go because he makes money and converted their best remaining reliever to a starter for reasons that are totally unknown. Oh wait, they are known in that predictably-injured starter pitchers got injured.
He is being bailed out by a couple good lefty reliever pickups, but man, what an idiot. The whole "not a serious organization" thing really illuminates itself when you think of Bednar and Holderman.

Apparently the Pirates are reversing this decision.
Which is the only surprising part of the story. It is shocking that Nutting would care anything about the history of the team versus making a couple of extra dollars of revenue.

Not that Skenes wasn't in every way the correct choice.
But it is way to early to be coming to any long term conclusions regarding Crews.
Vladdy just extended in Toronto for 500mil over 14 years. Craziness. Losing him over a few mil a year would have been worse though.

A no deferral, full NTC contract paying a guy $35mil a year until he is 40 is insane
