OT: Pirates Talk: Lets Play Ball

Mike Rabelo has never made a good decision in his life, and/or Bart has no business deciding to run there. Hernandez is not a good defender but he had a running start and was over halfway to the infield by the time he caught it.

Especially with Sasaki's wildness, there's no need to try and force that.

Yeah, those are the types of scenarios where I am not willing to waive the "Shelton has a terrible roster due to Cherington" flag.

He is extraordinarily stubborn with needing to use his guys. There is no reason on earth for Holderman to face Hernandez in his first game back. At bare minimum, he needs to pitch a non-leverage spot and have a clean couple of innings first. But tonight, Santana should be available, and you have to play to win this game.

Holderman probably singlehandedly lost it, and we are likely getting our faces stomped in with Glasnow vs Falter tomorrow.

Shelton allowing Holderman to pitch is a disaster. To be honest, Holderman being in the ML roster is a disaster. The guy is not good.

Apparently he said after the game that Santana was down, but Santana threw 3 pitches in game 1 vs LAA, 17 in game 2, off day for game 3, and threw 11 on Friday night. I'm sure they have various internal things for resting players, but the math isn't really adding up, especially since Bednar had thrown more pitches in the same games, and though Shelton also mentioned Bednar in his postgame comments, Bednar was warming up in the pen.

Regardless, it's probably better for the anti-front office sentiment and narrative if we have series W vs bad team / Skenes masterclass against Dodgers' 1a/1b ace and then immediate series loss to undercut any possible momentum.

I do have to imagine that something will be done soon, but who knows. Mlod back to the pen and Bubba as 5th starter seems like the easy button to press, though Bubba may not initially be good for a ton more innings than Mlod. I think he's really legit, but IMO there's bound to be some skewed perception with rookie pitching debuts given both Skenes' freakishness as well as how good Jones was all year (even if he maybe tapered towards the latter part of the season). It's still well within the cards that we push the easy button but Bubba comes up and is too wild or has trouble adjusting immediately.

Barco hasn't allowed an earned run all year in Altoona. I would consider having him skip AAA altogether in addition to bringing Chandler up

KG was said to have the highest ceiling of anyone in the draft last year. Hard to project HS players but 17-18 year old's aren't generally possessing the freakish size and athletic ability of Griffin. Billy Beane would hate this, but he just looks like a star aesthetically. Still way early but yeah, developing someone to a McCutchen peak (or better) would do wonders for a franchise that can't spend their way into prominence.

I've said multiple times I think Chandler has a Strider ceiling and is obviously much closer to reaching MLB so I give him the 1A/1B advantage of KG as of now. Chandler graduated from what KG is (super skilled, athlete, but raw) to a guy most reputable publications have as a top 10-15 prospect in baseball. You can argue he's the best arm that isn't in MLB now that Jobe has been up for a while.

Either way, super stoked to see Griffin's start. Hope his talent matures and he can somehow navigate the Pirates clueless developmental system as it pertains to hitters.

Interested to see how Johnson handles AA. Career has been a bit underwhelming considering the hype on his bat, but he's always been among the absolute youngest players at each level and his OBP is really, really, strong considering and the streaky pop is there thanks to elite bat speed. Fingers crossed, because we need someone sooner than later to help push the lineup in the right direction and as much as I like KG, he's not going to even touch the majors for another 2+ years most likely.

Better than Cutch peak is HoF caliber. Cutch has the peak for the HoF, but not the longevity/counting stats. Someone better than him is asking for a lot.

Like a .250 batter who could hit doubles would be an INSANE add to this team

That's how razor thin our margins are

Just one consistent ish bat would knock in a run.. So many innings die at 2nd or 3rd cause we get a hit then three automatic outs come up
