Why are the Rangers ALWAYS looking to add the biggest fish? It must get infuriating for their fans considering how much it's blown up in their faces over the years. Doesn't matter how good the player is, or if it fits a need, or makes sense for where they're at as a franchise, or makes sense for where they are under the cap. Every damn year they're tied to the biggest fish in the UFA pool, and often times end up signing them.

People on the trade boards thinking Shattenkirk will leave 1.5M on the table to sign with the Rags is hilarious. Maybe 500K, but 1.5M? Fairyland.

It's a NY thing. Same thing the Yankees used to do every off season. Difference is, the Yankees ended up ruining baseball because of it.

Biggest needs per DuPont in Globe

1. Second line LW
2. Third pair LHD
3. (Maybe) back up goalie

Not sure where Shattenkirk fits in

To get him the Bruins would have to get him on a deal like Smith is signing with Rangers

Then as Vedder says the dominos would be in play

Beleskey would have to go with no money retained

Carlo would logically go and with LW prospects to Colorado for Landeskog

I don't see it

Sweeney will talk to media today and my experience with him is he says a lot of good stuff if you can actually catch him not easy

My educated guess is they deal with Minnesota

I personally would do Beleskey for Pominville for a bunch of reasons from better fit to shorter term. I also believe Beleskey would do well there. Pominville would be like Stempniak which is fine he's a pretty honest player

But if Scandella is in it Boston can move prospects- I'm Minnesota I want Lindgren in there

Scandella makes sense and would give Boston 7 NHL D which would be perfect considering Chara advanced age and the youthfulness and inexperience of McAvoy & Carlo. McQuaid & Killer are often nicked up and Krug has often been banged up. It make a lot of sense to me

They are a pretty good match and the GMs are classmates and long time friends

I actually think they do this so when they get bounced they believe they can stand in front of the mic at the end of the year and exclaim that nobody could accuse them of not trying to win by signing whomever

I'd put entire 3rd line above LHD and Goalie.

Assuming the 2nd line LW (let's say Landeskog) slots in with Krejci.

Marchand-Bergeron-Backes
Landeskog-Krejci-Pastrnak

Kuraly-Nash-Acciari

Fairly big hole there.

I'd break things out differently of course (assuming a Landeskog acquistion goes through).

- Put Bjork into the Bergeron/Marchand RW finishing school.
- Put Beleskey with Krejci and Pastrnak and try to rebuild his value to deal him at the deadline or offseason
- Put the defensively responsible Landeskog and Backes with Spooner (same deal).

This lineup blocks Heinen and DeBrusk (assuming one goes for Landeskog)...but only temporarily. As noted, Beleskey would only be here long enough that you can deal him down the road. Ditto with Spooner and JFK.

This also means sitting the entire 1st week of free agency out. If there's a guy like Del Zotto willing to go the Cody Franson route, that's fine, otherwise, start with O'Gara.

Marchand-Bergeron-Bjork
Beleskey-Krejci-Pastrnak
Landeskog-Spooner-Backes
Kuraly-Nash-Acciari

Chara-McAvoy
Krug-Carlo
MDZ/ROG - K.Miller/McQuaid

Not surprising.

Probably one of the few teams that can offer him location, the term/$$$, and a job as the team's top D-man, which he would be on a shallow NJ D-group.

Agree.

Seems like a solid fit. And geographically right around the area he supposedly wants to be in.

I would like to see the Bruins bring in Marleau for that second left wing spot. would have to be a little creative in sending player/money-elsewhere but he would be a great addition.

Scandella for lindgren makes to much sense but I'd like it. As far as Pominville Id rather take Belesky cap hit and try to to move it. less money but more yrs.

How many years would you give a soon to be 38-year old Marleau? Granted, he's always been a strong skater.

Rumor is he already turned down 2-years from SJ.

It's the way things go in NY. There's so much competition for attention in terms of sports and entertainment. People around here don't have the patience for drafting and developing

Mike Commodore also said Beleskey was traded to Florida at the deadline. Hes full of ****. He got 2 trades right out of about 50 he said were happening.

He also said on deadline day that Vrbata was coming here...I think him being an insider is a tongue and cheek schtick for him. I think he has sources but I dont think hes all that credible

So scratch Minnesota off the list now for teams we'll be adding D from. They're not going to be moving Brodin now with Scandella gone.

In a way I'm pleased because I'd like the focus to be on top 6 forward. Obviously we haven't even heard the Bruins mentioned in a single rumor for a forward so that's discouraging, but at least the LD options dwindled.

I don't get to see Scandella much (I will now I guess), but personally not a big fan of dealing for him.

I would just as soon see a 5-7 of Miller, McQ, and O'Gara.

I wouldn't have an issue with these 3 as the 5-6-7 guys, but one thing to keep in mind about O'Gara is he doesn't need to clear waivers, so he could really be the 8th D, but unlike Morrow who had to sit upstairs for long stretches because they didn't want to place him on waivers, O'Gara could be playing and ready to go if/when he is needed by a simple call-up.
