We're definitely watching different players then. I think he'd be our 4th best center. He's lazy, makes bad/slow decisions with the puck and uncompetitive. You see the talent, but the results are what matters.

He truly is a solid hockey player.
He's just not worth THAT much. Problem is he isn't a team player or won't pass the puck to you unless he truly trusts you.
I don't expect him to be moved until next season but I do believe he has a bit of a better season next year.

There is smoke around Dubois from a few sources, there actually could be a trade market for this player from a very needy team looking for C help.

I can't see any team interested without some serious retention, which doesn't make sense for LA. When was the last time a team held salary for eight years? Without retention, I just can't see why anyone is taking a chance on him.
He's not remotely worth 8.5M. Even in his better seasons with the Jets, that number was hard to justify. After last season? It's just not at all worth the risk.

I think he was producing very well when the Jets had him with Connor last year. Once the Jets realized he would not stay, he was moved off that line. I paid attention.
Dubois to me is not the type to lead a line by himself. I would put a lot of blame to the Kings management on this. Paid a big price to acquire and gave him a big contract but then decided to ice 3 lines with talent spread out. Dubois as the 3rd wheel.
Big price to pay in trade value, big contract, and then decided to play him 15 min/game and on the 3rd line. Makes no sense at all.... regardless of how much fans think he is cancer. I think it's gravitating to lets alienate him now more than it should be.
Remember when the trade happened? Lots of fans wondered why the Kings were adding another center? I thought they would utilize him as a power forward type winger in their top 6 and he's there for insurance at center in case of injuries.
I think the Kings will do something different next year if he stays. A $8.5M center on the 3rd line. Come on man.
Flames with Huberdeau and they have to retain to cover the AAV difference and age with Huberdeau.
Buy out? Doubt it but possible. 1/3 the cost is manageable but not ideal.

I personally would not be surprised. Lots of gullible fans on HF boards like to party on the bandwagon herd that he is absolute cancer and nobody wants him.
Anchor contract going the other way would make a few teams think about it. He's certainly deserves some heat for asking out from two teams now but it's getting carried out and exaggerated beyond reality (fans never do this right? lol). A bunch of vultures or coyotes looking to strike when he is down.
I see some GM's engaging but they will want retention and/or a anchor contract going the other way. Problem is he has a NMC that kicks in July 1st. Quick decisions need to be made because then Dubois controls it more than the team.

Best results or sample size I have seen (yes, I followed him well), is his time with the Jets when he was with Connor.

buy out if the cup is awarded by the 22nd of june works for me. Sure it is 14 years but it's only 1/3 of this hit due to him being 25. Once he turns 26 then it's half.

The 1/3 buyout is manageable but it's not ideal. It's basically the same hit as Suter/Parise combined that the Wild are going through right now.
Bold move to buy him out after 1/8 years in the contract. Blake's job would be on the line IMO

I'm not so sure on that. There is a window to buy him out before his contract goes along much further. Waiting a year adds $10 million to his overall cap hit over the buyout. I think a decision has to be made sooner than later.
And, although LA is a big market team, there's a lot more "real money" on the line when buying out in 2025.

Honestly, I do think some fans are playing the devalue game. Bunch of coyotes jumping on something when it's trending. Certainly not off to a good start with the Kings but they did try to spread their talent over 3 lines with Dubois as the 3rd wheel. Personally, I find that horrible usage for someone who has never carried a line on his own.

Dubois "should" be a message to GMs about taking a closer look at a players history rather then convincing themselves that they are smarter or more capable of dealing with certain players.
I have that issue with any potential traded for Zegras. If signing him now was a bit of a problem, why would it be simpler in a few years?

They didn't "decide" to play him 15 minutes a game, he was simply not putting in the effort which pushed his time and position down.
No team ever signs what they think is a top player and then punish him or put him in a position to do worse.
This is all on Dubois. Period.

Sending him to a team with little to no concern about actual dollars for buyout makes alot of sense provided the sweeteners are worth 28M value. Or some combination of swapping bad contracts and sweeteners. Would 2 first round picks be enough? And would the Kings be desperate enough to move PLD to pull the trigger?
The actual cap implications from a buyout while spread over 14 years is a very small % of the cap. I don't think this level of dead cap would be a hindrance to building a competitive roster. Every time he use to play against the Habs i thought we were in deep trouble because of the local boy going nuts to prove himself in front of the home crowd.

Sadly, i bit the bait and swallowed on him yapping about wanting to play for the Habs, but it's only the bait and not the bullet.
I always look at players contribution to winning games. I think Dubois fully engaged can help you win games. I think Dubois is only engaged 20% of the time. He's had 5 different coaches. Torts did the best with him, but I just don't think he can get there consistently.

I got decapitated by a fan when i mentioned 2 1sts as a sweetener.
It will take that much because in essance a team is getting a 5 million dollar player for 8.5.
The only catch is that it needs a deeper dive into his locker room personality in itself AND the effect on the team.
Send Dubois to the 75 Habs or some team with serious leadership and culture and he's got zero effect on that team. Send him to the Habs who has a young captain and developing culture and he could be the piper leading to the cliff.
Just too many red flags for someone who could be a massive difference to any team
