I think Dorion is basically a puppet. Not sure how much you can actually blame him for the moves (outside accepting being a puppet). He just facilitates what a crazy out of touch owner who pays him does. He probably never should have been promoted past a senior scouting role, but if you are only willing to pay your GM what some teams will pay their AGM's these are the candidates you get.

How much do you think a guy who puts out "that video" on Monday listens to his employees opinions?

I'm tired of seeing some people give Dorion a free pass. He more than deserves his fair share of the blame in regards to the mess that is the Senators organization.

He is bar none the worst GM this organization has had, regardless of who the owner is. He is not fit to be an NHL GM.

He’s handcuffed by the owner but he re-signed so even though Melnyk is likely having a big influence, Dorion choose to stay through it.

He's just a push over patsy for Melnyk. No way does this goof have any agency in that organization whatsoever.
You have absolutely nothing to base your conclusion on here....

The fact that Ryan wasn’t involved makes me question whether or not Eugene had any say in this trade. You’d think Eugene would make Dorion include Ryan in any trade for Eriksson.

Who wants and could take Ryan’s contract on top of Karlsson? I don’t think any team would

I think it's hard to top the cavalcade of GMs and coaches that were responsible for the decade plus of Edmonton embarrassment and I do think Katz isn't a good owner.

But goddamn, the duo of Melnyk and Dorion are giving them a fat run for their money. Ottawa is really looking like they're gonna make that Edmonton stretch look palatable by comparison.

A team tanking/rebuilding without its first round lottery pick next year is hilarious, one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in sports. If he isn’t fired by then I hope they show his face while the Avs are picking next June.

And for Matt Duchene. LOL.

Allegedly, Vegas would have if they could have gotten Karlsson extended. From what I've seen today around the rumor mill is that Vegas and SJ were the two teams making the biggest push for EK but McPhee backed off when they realized an extension wasn't gonna be possible.

As a Vegas fan, I'm relieved. They still have some amount of futures they're hanging on to so they can't say they sold the farm to try to win now. I think Vegas could have beaten SJ's package but if they did so for only one year of Karlsson, it would be a disaster.

If Karlsson refused to negotiate an extension and is determined to hit UFA, the return makes more sense and Dorion isn't an idiot.
It's a good return for a rental in that case.

If Karlsson signs an extension with SJ, it looks pretty bad.

Do you think that the return offered was better at the trade deadline?

Once you trade Stone and Duchene you may need him to get to the cap floor anyways.
Oh God Lou may have found a dumping ground for some of the Isles overpopulated Island of Misfit Grinders (Lou's current plan seems to be to revolutionize the sport by having two complete fourth lines).

But to the topic at hand: Dorian=Sandy Alderson, Melnyk=Wilpons. Same exact thing where the owners are forcing all the terrible decisions.

Also similar circumstances. Didn't the Wilpons also take a significant financial hit paying off the Madoff fines? I know Melnyk's company has significantly decreased in value.

Yes. Wilponzis probably should've went to prison for their role in it because they HAD to know what was up. This was actually the second time they were involved in a Ponzi scheme so unless they are the stupidest people on earth there's no way they didn't know that's what Madoff was running.
