For me it's easily Samsonov.

@NorthernFlicker made a thread on how one of our teams possible weakness is high danger chances against even though it has improved over the season.

Samsonov currently ranks #3 overall in High danger unblocked shot attempt SV % amongst goalies with 30+ games played.

In big moments in the playoffs the opposing team is going to get some point blank chances that your goalie is going to need to step up with some big timely saves. Campbell ranked #28 in this stat last season with a 0.676 and ranked #9 in 20/21 with 0.744 while Andersen was #33 with a 0.635.

If Samsonov doesn't look ready early in the series, Murray is the perfect goalie with championship experience to come into a tough situation with the upside to really play well.

Samsonov all say he’s having a career year and I think he can be a .920 SSV% if they give him the reps. He’s had some bad games but has been more consistent than murry hands down . Samsonov is also 26 years younger and just hitting his prime , give him the reps and lock him up for a 3 year deal like anderson i think it could pay off

Best 2 year old goalie ever?

You had me until that last part there

We should trade these two for one better goalie.

Coin toss for me.

Just pick one. Tips like Samsonov on a tight leash are well-meant, but not all that practical. You need number one for playoffs.

No need to put extra pressure on either of them.

You see, that is the problem with going with 2 backups instead of finding a true #1. That’s the GMs job. Both of the goalies have a lot of inconsistencies in their game that could kill you in the playoffs. We’ll see how it goes, and if goaltending would be the main reason if we bow out early.

Sammy has earned it up till this point, and it would be tough to look him dead in the eyes and tell him he hasn't or is not getting the nod for game 1. That said, If both goalies go into game 1 on form it is an easy decision to go with Murr IMO. I think that is why we are seeing Sheldon kind of force the issue with Murr in the blue pain this past week and a bit. If we want to have any chance at winning the mug we will need Matt to play the way he is capable of. He has shown last season, and this season that he is capable of playing top level goaltending for long stretches in a row. He just needs to stay healthy. Positionally, stylistically, and fundamentally he is just better then Sammy when both tendy's are playing to their best ability. Not to mention, playoff hockey tends to be won and lost in and around the blue paint. Sammy has a tendency to lose his anchors every now and again which might cause us trouble in the playoffs.

All of that is not to discredit what Sammy has done this season. He has improved positionally by leaps and bounds, and he really looks like he is on the way to becoming the goalie he was drafted to become. He is clearly the better goaltender at the current moment, but Murr has just come back from a very lengthy set of injuries, and has backstopped some pretty atrocious games by our club since returning.

This is more of a gut call on my end, but I just feel like Murr's style is more suitable for the post season. Play big in the blue paint, hunt pucks through traffic, set the anchors and keep the paddle down on those goal mouth scrambles. Just battle

No matter who starts G1, they will likely not have a very long runway. We have 2 very capable goaltenders on the roster who have the ability to win, even steal, us a dub on any given evening. If we play the game we are capable of playing in front of them it really shouldn't matter who we put in the pipes.

samsonov for sure.

I still think Murray has it in him to be an imposing goalie for other teams. Before his significant injury this season, he was very good to the point where we were comparing him to standout leaf goalies of the past. Problem is he looks way off that form since his return. I don`t know if he can get back there, and Samsonov has been the vastly superior goalie second half of the season.

If Keefe starts Murray a single playoff game before Samsonov and Woll are both unfit to play I am rioting.
