Kenny Acuña, brother of Ronald and Luisangel Acuña, has verbally agreed to join #Phillies and wouldn't be eligible to formally sign until international free agent class in January 2028.(via Guillermo Arcay / IG)

Phillies have a 'verbal' agreement with Ronald Acuna's brother Kenny (he has another brother who is a Mets prospect).

Oh. Kenny Acuna is like 12 years old. He can't actually sign with an MLB team until January of 2028.

That's cool, I guess.

WHAT

You literally just made the (correct) point that baseball contracts are predatory

And then this comes out like 3 days later lol
It's why Jhailyn Ortiz got more money than Vlad Jr, Juan Soto, and Tatis Jr. I'm sure the Phillies, the day he signed, didn't think he'd be better than all of those guys. But they had to make a $4 million commitment before he had hair on his nuts.

With the Phillies luck I fully expect the next Acuna brother to be a star and the MLB will implement the international draft before he can sign with the Phillies. :)
