The caveats Petriello made are important, but the differences here are still huge. You can still do it, but acknowledging how much of a risk it is needs to happen.

Not sure how much is 3rd time through the order, and how much is more fatigue b/c adrenalin wears off and pitchers are more stressed in the post-season.
So a regular season 100 pitches might be 85-90 in the post-season.

There are any number of factors that contribute to it, of course, but why it happens doesn't really matter. The thing teams need to contend with is that it happens, and what that means for starter use vs. bullpen use. Sometimes, going through a third time is the right call, but the numbers suggest you'd be better off giving the other team a different look more often than not, so you need to be set up to do that.
