Had a chance to photograph some former Phillies yesterday for the Darren Daulton Foundation Fall Classic at The Chesapeake Inn. Most were former players from the 1993 team. Some observations:

It is a top-notch run organization, if judging by the event itself

All of the players were very warm and receptive to the numerous photo requests and iPhone selfies.

Dave Hollins was exceedingly friendly, which flies against the perception many fans have of him who measured him against his on-field persona.

Scott Eyre’s 2008 championship ring was enormous. I tried it on and it felt like wearing a bank safe.

Bernie Parent was there and about stole the show. He let me wear his 1974 ring. I fanboyed big time, I’m not ashamed to say. Everyone loved Bernie.

Steve Jeltz was about as nice a guy as you could meet.

Wes Chamberlain wore the Elvis sunglasses I had around my neck and was generally a huge cut-up. He had a ball.

Ruben Amaro and his beautiful lady hit the dance floor HARD - and he didn’t embarrass himself. He told me his favorite players in the clubhouse when his father was playing were Mike Schmidt and Bake McBride.

Mickey Morandini broke every woman’s heart. The man was cool and genuinely happy to be there.

Danny Jackson told me there was no crazier team he was on than the 1993 squad.

I confused Dickie Noles’ September 1980 with Marty Bystrom’s two minutes after I arrived and he gave me a withering look. I saved face by mentioning the George Brett incident, which I’m sure everyone else does. Turns out he wasn’t serious as he gladly posed for photos with fans for me.

Tommy Greene was about as laid back as it gets. His wife was a wonderful woman. She said Dutch was responsible for them meeting.

Everyone who was expected to show up did show up. Bernie and his lady were boogieing next to Ruben and his gal on the dance floor.

My friend, Gianmarco, owns the establishment and was an attendee at Fantasy Camp. Each time a former athlete arrived, they made a bee line to him and gave him a hug. They genuinely all seemed to enjoy themselves. This was the inaugural event and I can see it taking place every year.

I am compelled to inquire about the state of Steve Jeltz's hair.
