This is purely a hockey trade, nothing to do with any player's ethnic background.
Looking at the two teams, Montreal is attempting to win now with Price especially after dealing Subban for Weber. Philly is Giroux plus the kids where his age and more importantly his prime will probably end a couple years before the whole team peaks together.
So...
To Montreal: Claude Giroux $8.275m for 5 years
To Philadelphia: Alex Galchenyuk $2.8m 1y RFA, David Desharnais $3.5m 1y UFA (expiring dump to even out salaries, negative value)
Leaving aside the huge disparity in value for a moment...
2.8 + 3.5 = 6.3
How does that even out salaries?
No reason for Montreal to even consider this.
I want your elite, franchise-defining asset but I don't want to pay. Gimme.
Galchenyuk isnt ''paying''?

I get it, people love to hate on the Habs, but give me a break with saying that ''Giroux >>>>>>Galchenyuk''. AG was off to a better start than Giroux this year, his 1st year as C, playing top minutes, He's also 4 years younger & wont be making $9 000 000/year (not on his next contract at least).
For Giroux?
No.
It is not paying.
What about:
Galchenyuk, sergagev, McCarron, a first + Desharnais for Giroux

Easy no from the Habs
I can't even understand this opinion. Where is your head for this?

I'm assuming Galchenyuk > Giroux in market value and that Giroux waives his NMC for this one situation.
The difference in salary is almost $2m/y with Montreal having like $1.2m in cap currently. When 40% of the season is over, Montreal will have enough room to take on the extra cap.
I believe after this deal, Montreal can run for the Cup immediately and at least two more times after this. Giroux had an epic matchup against Sidney Crosby a few years ago and if Montreal wants to make the Final, I believe it must go through Pittsburgh. With a true 1C, 1D, 1G, plus a gamebreaking W (Radulov), they can match up against Tampa Bay too.
For Philly, they now have a potential 1C that will peak around the same time with the younger team. In a couple of years they can run for several years in a row like Hextall's previous team, the Kings.
Is this deal fairly even or does one side or the other need to hand over some futures to make the value work?

Can we just lock this one up before it gets ugly.
No reason for Montreal to even consider this.
bad for philly.
