Andrew Shaw is not a very good hockey player.

He should be left exposed in the expansion draft, can't see Vegas picking up that contract though.

Didn't mind the trade too bad. Eller got a rough ride here but it wasn't a huge problem to get picks for him from the Caps then pick up Shaw from the Hawks. But who the hell was holding a gun to Bergy's head when he signed him to that deal? 3 years would've been fair but he doubled that length. More proof of Bergy's cocky self-assuredness and obsession with the idea that character was key to the Hawks winning their Cups (only 1 of which he was there for).

So he probably felt Shaw was some sort of prized possession and with his bias handed him a deal so long that the cap hit becomes irrelevant. Boy are a lot of GMs gonna be contending to unload their yucky contracts via the expansion draft. And many are going to end up disappointed. Las Vegas ain't going to sign up a team right to the cap ceiling!

Difference is Ryder wasn't captain and isn't one of the top relied upon players. It's becoming clearer that Max is an ideal secondary scorer and not the go to guy. He doesn't handle pressure well at all. I remember when the Habs got Vanek and then Max started scoring because he wasn't the top guy anymore.
