I don't remember Philly being this bad last season. They finished with more points than us last year and were a contender. They handled Pittsburgh pretty well in the first round even though that series was a joke. Then we trounced them and they've sucked ever since. Is this assessment right? Am I wrong in saying that we broke the Flyers essentially?

*more point, shouldn't be plural

they finished one point ahead out us.. their defense also got decimated in the off-season via UFA and injuries.

Holmgrem's plan was to get one of Suter or Weber and he struck out... hence a bad hockey team.

Haha we might of.

Their problem is due to injuries their D seems to somehow have gotten worse. Definitely not better, and their offense has definitely regressed from last year. Last year Philly was able to score goals at will on weak D's, which is why they handled Pitt (plus they really got under their skin and Pitt imploded)

This year they can't score like that, and Pitt can. Why despite both team's D and goaltending being awful one is in the playoffs and the other isn't. Frankly the way they are both built neither team could go very far.

A real nice team win. The Devils looked like the team from earlier in the season.

Are they officially out of their funk? Not so sure, lately we seem like world beaters when we play Philadelphia the same way Carolina looks when playing the Devils. Don't get me wrong, love beating the Flyers. Hope we win tomorrow night as well. But why we look great playing Philly and Pittisburgh and stink playing Winnipeg or Carolina is hard to figure.

We play better when fired up and in a "playoff" mode so to speak. When this team doesn't have the pedal to the metal, and play with that urgency that we should in rivalry games we sputter out.

I think their team completely bought the media hype that they would have their way with us before that series. They were then mind****ed when we unleashed the DeBoer forecheck and they couldn't find an answer for it.

I remember watching their post game interviews and guys like Hartnell and such said that they weren't mentally in the series, and that was like 3 games into it, way too late

i think i read on their GDT that larsson is a norris candidate this year. wtf?

Yeah... about that... I love the way the kid is playing on the whole... but no. They're more delusional than I thought. Or they're looking for any excuse for why they don't score on us.

Whatcha mean, Larsson is definitely winning the Norris this year.

Then we're going to trade him straight up for Giroux and a 1st. All sides will be happy.

Yeah... I don't know what you're on, but you're crazy if you think Larsson is winning the Norris this year...

I had him pegged for the Hart Trophy to be honest.

Long shot for the Rocket Richard, but he can pull it off IMO.

Maybe then we can trade him for Malkin or Stamkos straight up.. I'm down with that.

Adam, win ALL the awards! :naughty:

Apparently they are still mind****ed against us. Let us continue this trend tomorrow!!!:yo:

It was hard to even notice, but I believe Kurtis Foster was on the ice last night.

Didn't we trade him away in a lopsided deal to get Zidlicky or something? I can still hear the Minny fans telling us about how terrible Zid is.

btw, Zid's had a few games now where he's looked like a #1 Dman.
Larsson has been solid for a bunch too.

Those lines last night were spectacular - Carter showed he has jets, and I like the look of Bernier on Henrique's wing. Kostopoulis is estabilshed in the 'ok with me' column simply by dumping Hartnall on his a$$. They could waive him tomorrow and I'd be satisfied with his contribution.

Don't even have to mention Lokti.

All in all - just a great win. Even the standard late-game goonery couldn't take the shine off of it. Briere is such a dirty b&stard.

I got to say, for the 2nd straight game, Volchenkov didn't have me cursing at my TV set. That's the player I thought we'd get when Lou picked him up via free agency.

Let's just hope that he'll continu to throw his weight around and move the puck the second it's on his stick either up the ice or this his partner, Harrold, who's more then effective when he has it on his stick.

Good job #28 ;)

I have no idea what the hell Stevens did before the 2nd Buffalo game to whip our guys into shape, but they've been a completely different group the last week or so.

The only thing I don't like about this win is that it means Fayne will be sitting out at least one more game.

As much as a rag on Zid for his defensive play, I have to admit he was pretty impressive yesterday. Made the right pinches, good passes, and made some nice defensive plays with his stick. Hopefully he keeps it up. Same goes for Volch. He's picked up his play tremendously.

No matter how you spin it, we're at a point where a good defence-man is going to sit now.
