L. Schenn is a healthy scratch? That's news to me.

Too bad D.L. couldn't swing a trade for Laughton, I like that kid.

Laughton has been terrific, one of the few bright spots in their dismal games. Very tenacious, plays hard, doesn't give up on a puck, smart, just a hardworking, heart and soul type. Bodes well for the future, Hexy was very reluctant to bring him up, he really wanted to keep him in the AHL all year but Vinnie and Bumberger have been awful and most of the forwards other than G and Voracek were MIA so he called him up. I don't know if he'll stay up, there are still rumors that Hexy is trying to pitch a deal to the Oilesr for a winger and D, but I find that hard to swallow since he won't give up any of the young D prospects in the system and no picks. And nobody wants the Flyers bad contracts as part of any deal. He dangled Vinnnie L around the league earlier this week, after the 1st benching and got no takers (theres a shock)
.

An interesting quote to take from that nj.com article:

I have to agree, that timeframe is when just about every player not named Giroux or Voracek began to drop off. Berube is not a good coach, maybe he coaches the way he plays, which was not elite or with vision or IQ. He's too much of the Flyers old boy network. It's no coincidence that the only Flyers coaches who've gotten the team to deep playoff runs and into the SCFinals (Shero, Keenan, Quinn, Murray and Lavvy) were not ex homeboys. His in game decisions sometimes are headscratchers.

The only other thing I can think of is that he's been dangled as part of a trade and they don't want to risk an injury. SNider won't tolerate them missing the playoffs (which they will) and him showing up at the west coast road games and not being happy doesn't help. His tirades and attitude have put pressure on Hexy to get something done. I think he's being cautious about what that will be, he'll trade one of the key younger players if the player coming back is young enough to fit into what he envisons his core to be in the near future.
I'm not an MDZ fan and although he did play well at times in the first 20 gaems or so, most of that was skating, puck movement and offense. I didnt' see any big leap in this defensive game.
but benching him didn't merit anything positive, not with the sad sack D he has to play with

But he's out of the doghouse, was practicing yesterday

MDZ with McDonald, so L. Schenn figures to be scratched Sat.

Vinnie L appears to be still in the doghouse and the only line changes was Umberger moving up to play with Cooter and Read. Which is not a good move as he sucks big time. The other 2 at least have speed and some skill, he will pull that line down and it will cost them.

Yeah, I agree, he is being singled out. Stupid move by the coach.

I wonder if Hextall regrets going back there...

He knew the score when he accepted the job. He knew Homers awful trade and sign track record and he knew the farm system was threadbare and pisspoor. He knew the awful contracts and almost all with NMC's.
And he accepted the offer. So I don't think he regrets it at all. After experiencing the success of LA and how DL was the GM who put the team together that brought the CUp to LA, I think he wants to have that legacy in Philly. That he's the GM that ended the (now over 40 year old ) Cup Drought.
But boy does he have a long long road ahead, they are years away from being anything close to a contender, due to those awful contracts that are /will be hard to move and the lack of elite talent.
Homer had no map or game plan, which will affect Hexy. Take for example that Giroux is about to turn 27 and the core going forward that Hexy is protecting are 4 young D (18 to 22) still in the farm system and an elite goalie prospect, also in the AHL. By the time those young D come up and get their 300 games or so in to become a solid confident contributing group and that goalie gets his 3 years of NHL experience in , Giroux is in his 30's.

He could have waited a bit longer and accepted another GM job, but he chose Philly and I think part of it was the fans love for him from his playing days and being the guy who played his heart out wearing the logo and is the guy who brings the Silver home.

I just hope he can withstand the impatience from the owner, who is the monster that created the very mess he now complains about.
