Here's the thing with Detroit that is so frustrating. They have a good offense, but a subpar QB. However, their greatest need, by volume, is on defense. If they indeed get the #1 overall, do they trade back just enough to get a blue chip QB and parlay that into extra picks or do they grab their #1 and draft D the rest of the way?

Take the best QB. Nothing else matters if you don’t have the QB.

Nick Foles, Brad Johnson, Doug Williams and Trent Dilfer all kiss their Super Bowl Rings and give you the finger.

I don’t exactly disagree, but having the best QB isn’t all that matters of course. Russ, Rodgers, Lamar, Peyton, whomever have lost many times despite being the best.

Really think It’s getting to a weird point where the emphasis on QB is becoming too much. You need a good one, but I’m not sure you need the best one.

I meant the best QB in this draft.

Also all of those guys won tons of games so I’m not sure I see your point.

My question there would be, "What is the delta among the top three QBs in this class?" I don't have that answer, especially since the objective "best" QB each year is just as often not the first one taken as it is the first one taken. Perhaps you or @JojoTheWhale have more insight there on the 2023 class. I sure don't.

What the hell are the Bears doing this past week?

Claypool is under control another year after this one. Smith was up for a new deal this off-season.

They need some WR’s with a pulse in there. I guess they want to give Fields a better cast to audition with than what’s currently there.

They have a boatload of capspace this upcoming off-season & draft capital so they’re probably gonna be pretty active.

That Claypool trade seems terrible for Chicago. I know they need weapons, but maybe draft one with that second round pick and get 4 years of control. Claypool isn't exactly a sure thing.

Yeah I'm not ready to give an analysis on the 2023 Draft yet. I know PFF has Levis QB2 and I think that is quite rich from what I have seen on TV (he has raw ability for sure).

I just think for QB, you shouldn't get too cute. Value goes out the window. Get your guy. The QB position is also as much getting to a team with a good coach and good scheme as anything, which many teams picking at the top don't have. I think this is why the first QB doesn't always turn out to be the best QB.

Other positions? Sure, I think it is less important to get the "best" player at the position. It is a wise strategy to tier players and try to maneuver to get the most bang for your buck.

Well I have multiple points I suppose.

First one being that I think if there’s a few top QBs and you can trade from 1 to 5 to gain big picks and still get a guy you really like at QB - that’s probably a better move for this team.

Also the other point is that many of the guys named weren’t top 5 picks even. You can find “the guy” later than the top 3 if need be. If you’re a truly disheveled franchise, I think you get a QB you think has a great future in a draft like this and you also try to build around him with picks you earned trading back from 1 or 2 perhaps since QBs can’t do it alone. The guys I named may have won a SB, but can only do so much if there’s no team around them.

I've been saying the NO has an easy schedule (7-3) and they are a better team than their record, we'll be very lucky if it stays a top-10 pick.
I see at least 5 more losses on their schedule. Ravens, @Niners, Rams, @Eagles, @Tampa, @Browns are all games they'll be fortunate to win. Plus they've already lost to Carolina and only beat the falcons by 1... Steelers are really the only game they "should" win but it's also at Pitt. I really can't see them finishing better than 6-11, they're a bad team with no QB.
