The Eagles touching the ball first essentially killed the play.
So the play was once the ball has been touched by the kicking team, but not possessed through the whistle the receiving team can advance the ball as if it's a free play, they can even steal it from the kicking team -- although normally if possessed the whistle would have blown. There is no danger to the receiving team because if the receiving team fumbles it or gets a safety they can take the ball where it was first touched at by the kicking team.

Everyone on the field did their part, the ball was batted back into the field, the first touch, and the Steelers player ran in and picked it up knowing that it was safe, Eagles special teamers in the area didn't have a brain fart and walk off the field while he was running away.

I'm a Hurst TD away from a win. Of course it'd all be moot if Taylor didn't suck. Again. That dude is the biggest f***ing asshole
