Paying good/above average QBs elite money is one of the worst things you can do in a league with a salary cap and the draft system.

While Jalen's progress has been phenomenal, he's probably not totally in the elite category yet.

But elite QBs are extremely hard to come by, there's only a handful in a league of 32.

Jalen's trajectory could absolutely put him there in the near future. He's already broken the ceiling of his perceived potential.

The Eagles have no other choice than to gamble on his continued development and pay him for potential. And judging by athleticism, progress within the last year and intagibles alone, that's a bet they absolutely should make.

Chris this is a hockey board. stop it.

what are the things hurts is elite at , and what are the things he is not elite at. i am curious to know.

I mean let's also recognize that we depend on him in RPOs to at times bulldoze LBs and get 3 yards with his legs, and he's a huge part of the 4th and short success. (Not that the ol isn't also the key to all of it).

If he can run this offense (tailored to his strengths) with limited turnovers for 10 years IDGAF if he can't succeed in another offense to be honest.

I mean you can see that the Saints didn't care about Minshew running and how that turned out.

Mahomes is absurdly great at winning close games. I'd rather he not have that chance. I don't feel good about a 1 score game.
I think he has only lost 3 by more than 10 points. Buffalo and Tennessee last year and the Super Bowl. it is is what it is. They just play alot of close games in general. It will be that Sunday.

Ok, I'm going mostly by eye test, so don't crucify me if some things are totally wrong. ;-)

I honestly haven't overly analyzed it, I just think that from a purely pocket-passer standpoint Mahomes, Burrow and Allen are better at this point. More consistent. If I had one drive to win the game (and the running game hasn't been working all game), I'd take them over Hurts.

Football IQ, protecting the football, dual-threat, making something out of broken plays, etc. he's up there with them.

I guess I just would like to see his passing to be at the level it's been Sept-Nov this year a little longer, a little more consistent before his next contract.

He's missed some makeable throws these last few weeks. Is that the injury hindering him or has he reverted back to the mean (he's struggled mightily with the deep ball last year)? Pretty sure it's the injury, but still.

I got a quote Notification and I don't seem to be quoted. It feels like the site is trying to tell me something.

I don't know. I've said a few things about Hurts and I'm starting to get the vibe that I'm just talking out of my a**, while others have stats and advanced analytics and stuff to put me in my place, haha. So maybe the site IS telling you something. ;-)

**** THIS IS NOT ME JUMPING INTO THIS DISCUSSION. THIS IS SPEAKING TO CONSENSUS ****

Consensus opinion would not have Hurts on an Allen/Burrow level, let alone Mahomes. Anyone who says you're talking out your ass by saying that is probably being unreasonable.

To be clear, this is 100% you jumping into the discussion.

Dread it. Run from it. It arrives all the same.

Nah, I'm more worried that I'm rating Hurts too highly.

Him being the awesome, easy-to-root-for dude that he is; me wanting to see him succeed because he's such a great person; this great run this year (which was very much a team effort);

All factors that I feel might cloud my judgment a bit...

But yeah, I've probably said enough on this topic. ;-)

He hurt is shoulder badly against Chicago. He has not been the same since that. That injury cost him the MVP.

A brief outline on my current philosophy on modern qb play. The rules of today make it very easy to move the ball . Most defenses will only show something exotic on a money down 3rd and long. So the key to any successful offense is not getting to third and long. THe way you get to third and long is inaccurate passes, penalties, and sacks. Negative plays. So todays rules don't reward great plays it penalizes mistakes.

Jalen Hurts makes the least mistakes of any qb in the game today. Simple as that. It may not sound sexy and it may not be on the highlight real , but he does not make mistakes.

LIke I said earlier the key to many modern defenses is getting other teams to 3rd and long something the eagles rarely get to. But the reason why teams can't get us to 3rd and long is because we run rpo in a way that teams can't be right.

Is our oline good? Yes. But one of the reasons why our Oline is so good is because of Jalen Hurts. This is exact opposite of Joe burrow who is one of the reasons why his oline is so bad.

Want to know why our run game is so good. Again its because of Jalen Hurts and only because of Jalen Hurts.

Jalen hurts is the system, he has his hand in every aspect of this offense. We talk about AJ brown but we don't nearly talk enough about Jalen Reagor. Last year Hurts had reagor and smith as WR's. Reagor is not even an nfl caliber player. The ascension of Hurts is not because of AJ Brown its because of the removal of Reagor. Reagor brought this team down so much that he only targeted two players in goedert and Smith that put so much pressure on the offense. Now he has 3 weapons in the passing game that can't be double teamed.

Just a quick FYI, Kirk COusins targeted Reagor two times in a game this year after jefferson got injured and both times the ball was intercepted.

And now to the final reason for the eagles ultimate success. Red zone. This team can not be stopped in the red zone. Brock Purdy going down still can't explain why the 49ers could not stop this team in the red zone, and its very simple. When you have a run pass threat in hurts he has to be accountable the whole time and that puts defenses in no win situations.

One last caveat, game winning drives are very memorable. THey leave a lasting impression. WHat doesn't leave a lasting impression are teams that dominate early and get two possession leads by halftime. That is what we do, and we do it at a rate that has been unmatched by any other team in football. Jalen hurts is being penalized for winning at dominate level and its driving me crazy.

I have no idea what any of what @JojoTheWhale is saying means.

I just hooked up my HD antenna. I get Fox nice and clear. I will be able to watch the game, correct?

Anyone going out for the game?
About 30 of us are, as usual, taking over a local bar. Of course the core group of a dozen or so will relentlessly bust the stones of the bandwagon jumpers. But if any Chiefs, Niners, Giants, or Cowpatty fans run their mouths, they will receive the full wrath of our drunken rage.

Oh, and no worries, I’ll be in my lucky seating wearing my lucky shirt. The combo is 14-1 this season and 14-0 when Hurts starts.
