OT: Philadelphia Eagles (NFL): When You're Up, It's Never As Good As It Seems, And When You're Down, You Never Think You'll Be Up Again

Take it from someone who is in the KC viewing area—they receive a clear advantage of calls in their favor. Philly fans who don’t see them a lot should be prepared.

I’m not pre-sour grapes or anything, but just pointing out what I’ve observed over the last few seasons.

Let's take a look at all the KC gifts they received

Holding:

Block in the back #1

A better view of it

Here's what a real late hit out of bounds looks like. Remember seeing this and wondering how it didn't get called. Not a word from the announcers

No first down on 3rd and 9, no worries, we'll give you another shot for free

I’ve got a lot of 49er fans in my area and I’m sick of hearing them bitch about the game.

I’m not a huge football guy but wasn’t the main key of the game pertaining to whether or not the niner oline could stop the Eagles pass rush? They knocked out TWO of their quarterbacks!

The NFL is not rigged, just sheer incompetence. We see it every week. I remember after the Chiefs got killed in the Super Bowl their supporters were claiming the same thing . It's going to be hard to be rigged for them when they arent going to be able to block. Their tackles are very suspect. That was a penalty against Mahomes last night at the end but they also should have called the one against Burrow though.

One thing, again as someone who lives in the KC viewing area, that I don't understand is how defenses continually just leave the middle of the field open for anyone (usually Kelce though) to just stand there and wait for easy 5,6,7 yard passes

Not rigged but heavily influenced. Those several calls in the Super Bowl were atrocious.

BTW, respect for calling Shanahan Flatbrim on the football board.

Kelce or the playcaller understands what the defense is doing and so they play, or call plays, in a manner that exploits natural gaps in coverage

Hard to read this game, Eagles DL dominated SF's O-line, but Purdy getting injured made it hard to read how good the defense was overall. Even at 7-7, I think Siri wanted to play it conservative b/c it was unlikely SF was going to score another TD. And when Johnson went down, the game was over. Wouldn't surprise me if in the second half with a lead, they were also very vanilla b/c they didn't want to give the AFC winner any film to look at - probably had some new wrinkles they didn't need to use.

If Mahomes is still hobbled, I think it's an easy Eagles win, they will get a lot of pressure on him, he may throw for 300 yards but look for a couple turnovers off pressure - fumbles, arm hit and ball quacking, forcing it into coverage b/c he doesn't have time to see receivers come open. If he's healthy, he can avoid some of that pressure and make big plays.

Conversely, SF is a much tougher defense than KC, if Landon is healthy, I think they'll just run at Jones - the best way to slow down a pass rusher is make him work on run downs and use up energy - especially a DT - and Landon is a beast.

Hurts won't be 100%, but close enough that he can run recklessly - like there's no tomorrow - because there's no tomorrow.

while it was a penalty. It was a penalty of the cheapest ilk. And what is worst is that the penalty was essentially a game ender. The Nfl was a few seconds away from allowing these two budding rivals continue this closely fought game into overtime. This would have allowed both teams to determine the winner instead of the refs.

I want to win, but I know it's a tough one ahead
we put up 31 against the number 1 defense while playing poorly . It may not be as tough as you think

you bring up a good point about hurts. There was only 1 drive where he actually ran and we easily scored a td on that drive. It felt like Sirianni designed the game around ( let's not put hurts at risk)

Not calling the penalty would have had the refs determine the winner.

Not to mention Butker very likely could have still made a kick knowing that it was a sixty yarder at that point with seventeen seconds on the clock and the Chiefs had at least 2 timeouts IIRC to get closer.

They were out of timeouts, that is why sacking Mahomes on that play which was really close to would have ended regulation. Without that penalty it would have been 62 yards in 20 degree weather. They had 8 seconds left so I they probably would have tried one more play to the sidelines. Would have been close.

I hear what you're saying, but I have to admit that there's an element of the team playing sloppier once they knew their QBs were out (leading to more penalties perhaps, and generally less hope/fire to win than usual even if by a small percentage).

Also, time of possession is kind of San Francisco's "thing" & clearly that was out the window as soon as Purdy was unable to return.

So I think the Eagles should be the favorites, but I'm not at all comfortable. They're the best team we'll play all season. FWIW, we almost beat the Chiefs last year and we weren't as good/they're probably worse this year...so take it for what it is.

Almost beat the Chiefs last year? What? That was an ass kicking. They scored 6 touchdowns on like 8 or 9 drives . It depends alot on who he is throwing too but I feel good about this game. Both Toney and Hardman are always hurt, so not sure we will see them. Juju is now injured and they have problems blocking. The Bengals werent able to run on them but the Jags did very effectively. Id try to control the clock.

the chiefs had zero timeouts and when mahomes went out of bounds there was less than 10 seconds on the clock.
