Other Sports: Philadelphia Eagles (NFL): THIS IS BRAZIL (Start Of 2024 Regular Season)

Great Blitz by KC. 6 guys on the LOS. But, both LB drop into coverage while S still comes and CB comes off the edge.
Completely messed up the Bills. LG plan was to block the LB but his LB bails. RG slides to his left as he expected the C to take #32 LB, but that LB bails, and the C adjusts to block #90 whom the rG expects to block. Leaving S Reid free. RT takes #56. LG noticed too late that the pressure was coming from the right, and tried to get back to help, but too late.

6 guys on the line, so it had to be a quick pass. Needed 5 yards for the first.
Wonder what the progression was for this play. A left hand QB probably throws to shakir. The righty...with the blitz probably has no idea if he fell down, the de dropped out to cover ect.

I think allen is reading 21 on this play, and if he stays, the out to Kincaid will be wide open. The blitzers just affect throw.

The RG though, tells me it was supposed to go to shakir, otherwise, idwtf he's doing. Soon as his face is crossed he should be blocking right.

It's to Shakir if it's Man. It's not if it's Zone. The whole discussion is a complete shitshow with people worrying about dunking rather than the play.

They got outcoached and then the protection was wrong. That was the whole play. I'm not even sure if they go full Slide Right they can block it up. Nor do I know if you want to assume you're getting a drop from the stack side EDGE even if you're seeing indicators that pressure is coming from the boundary. If you're wrong on that, you've just let an EDGE come in unblocked on 4th Down to the playside.

I guess it's theoretically possible to ask him to drop straight back and then throw a rope over to Shakir because he only needs another half second. But that's one hell of an ask.

My biggest problem with all of this is giving Spags that condensed look AND going with a 5 man protection on top. He eats that stuff alive.

Allen has to read that it's hot. 6 on the LOS vs his 5 OL. Someone is going to be free if they come. Even if one or two guys drop, they are packed in tight between the Tackles. So, still need to get the ball out fast. They came out of the 2 minute warning. If he didn't like the look he could have called a timeout. If they were coming out of a called TO then they couldn't call a 2nd straight one without incurring a 15 yard penalty. I get not wanting to call it cause if you fail, you need the 3 timeouts to conserve time and give yourself another shot with 1:30 or so left. But, still. Game on the line there.

It's not just the numbers. Whoever made the protection call has the worst possible slide. Every QB on earth is dead in that spot after the Snap. The Bills recognized this look and thought they were backing out of the pressure. They said this after the game, but of course anyone can say anything. In this case, they're backed up by the protection call. They just got fooled.

@JojoTheWhale i actually forgot with Leonhard too in regards to the college level. I believe he ran a lot of 3-4 base at Wisconsin. Obviously he annually pumped out top 5-10 caliber defenses there during his time while not having top 5-10 caliber recruits.

I’m not sure how many head coaches want to run that at that level & potentially overhaul their roster to accommodate that.

So that probably muddies the water too. At the NFL perhaps they just don’t think he’s ready enough or something?

Yep, that's true. But they were reasonably variable. Played a lot of Nickel for example. They got into 2 Overhang looks a lot in short yardage. There's a whole discussion about whether some of these looks are technically 2-4-5 or 4-2-5, but it's not the point. They're effective or they're not.

Then there was some 3-3 that really doesn't have much place in the modern NFL but I get running it at Wisconsin because they had athletic LBs. I would think he would adjust to his personnel somewhat, but I understand I can't know for sure.

Feel like the Bills & Ravens are basically becoming this era’s Colts & Steelers of the 2000’s. It’s similar narrative around them & their QB’s as it was to those teams because they always had to get through the Pats to make it out of the AFC.

Steelers made it to 3 Super Bowls (winning 2) and the Colts made it to 2 (winning 1) though. Overlooked? Yes, but at least they had a couple of berths and a couple of rings. Bills & Ravens still have to even make it to the Super Bowl in this era. It's just crazy that they haven't even been there yet!

Can you imagine if Wentz came in, had a once in a lifetime game and won it? ugh, what a travesty that would be. .

I actually have an incredible tough time imagining that. No way does Carson have the poise to just come in a game of this magnitude and perform at the highest level...

Both Allen & Jackson are 28 years old though. So still a lot of runway left for those teams assuming they stay healthy.

Manning was 30 the first time the Colts won it all & didn’t reach his second until he was 33.

Let's ignore the trade down I almost always want to do. I can't shake the feeling that one of Revel or Emmanwori are going to be the highest rated player on my board when they're up on Day 1.

I feel like Josh Simmons may be the most likely pick as things stand?
Is Skattebo an NFLer? Or is he graduating magna cum football

Yup, that's very true. I gotta blame my own warped perception I guess. I only started watching in 2004, so I witnessed the Steelers and Colts win it all in seasons 2 and 3 of me following the sport. I didn't see all of Peyton's playoff troubles earlier in his career for example.

But yeah, book far from closed on the Ravens & Bills from this era.

NFL guy, but like a 4th rounder. I wouldn’t expect him to be a good starter or anything.

There are people that have him as a late 2/early 3. I’m just not one of them.
Pardon the ignorance here, but is it common for people "high" in heisman rankings to go that late? There may not be a correlation at all, but it feels odd. this isnt saying he should go higher -- i have legitimately no idea -- just curious if Heisman isnt really a measure of 'NFL' level?

You’re correct here. It’s just a measure of the reputation of NCAA play. Linemen and defensive players don’t win the Heisman except in extreme corner cases. It’s just skill position guys.

1st place: Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter (Will be a top 3-5 pick this year)
2nd place: Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty (Will be taken somewhere in the top 15-20)
3rd place: Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel (may sneak into Round 2, but probably R3-R4)
4th place: Miami QB Cam Ward (mid 1st round to early 2nd round talent who may go much higher because of the positional value of QBs)
5th place: Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo (let’s call it Round 3)
6th place: Army QB Bryson Daily (Not an NFL player)
7th place: Penn State TE Tyler Warren (mid-late 1st round)
8th place: Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders (same answer as Cam Ward)
9th place: Indiana QB Kurtis Rourke (not a lock to be drafted at all)
10th place: Syracuse QB Kyle McCord (Round 5 or so)
