Team is built to coalesce around 3 offensive stars.
Not go out and dominate without them. It is what it is.
It's always been my pushback to "build around Maxey." The difference between a Maxey-tier star and Embiid is impossible to bridge. Unless Embiid is on the floor (with the others), I agree, it's irrelevant in judging them at
peak capacity. PG has looked solid. Realistically, their 4th best player also isn't on the team yet. However, Maxey being hurt could actually put them in a hole out of which they can't dig out. I'll be the first to defend this team building strategy......but this is the risk you run.
everyone else on the team is essentially here to space the floor and play defense
I think that's been the biggest issue: they can't. They're currently too small to play defense and can't space the floor. Their two best depth wings (Oubre and Martin) are bricklayers, and Martin especially has YMCA-level shooting form right now. Their backup guards (Gordon and Lowry) are old farts who can basically only shoot; McCain isn't ready for primetime and isn't fixing their size+athleticism. KJ is a rim runner. I'm not a fan of Drummond, but the fit is awful. We're down to Yabusele and finding minutes for RCIV. Shooting still TBD.
