Weal has done absolutely NOTHING in LA. Doesn't even have an assist. He'll be out of the league in a year.

The Third hurts more given the Kings incredible drafting.

Luke Schenn at $1,800,000 is a great depth deal.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Dean make another move at the deadline.

The game against Colorado proved how bad our center depth past Kopitar/Carter. Shore has been given the chance at providing offense with decent wingers and couldn't get it done. I'm not saying Vinny is going to be our savior or anything like that, but at least it's another option.

Weal was never going to play for this team. He showed nothing in the few games that he played. The 3rd round pick is basically going to be a 4th round pick if the Kings make a deep playoff run. The Kings get 2 rentals at half price.

DL does it again.

Please bookmark this thread when we are lifting the Cup again in June. We finally got a solid defensive D to shore up the blue line and Vinny is retiring at the end of the year anyway.

Tony and Buddy are right, and the rest of you are overreacting. Think about it and repost, please.

I'd feel ok with it if Schenn wasn't garbage.

yup I am loving this deal. I wish the pick was 2017 is my biggest complaint

I believe that the team that originally signed him eats it.

If you read the article I posted earlier, Vinnie said he was open to terminating contract so that cap penalties would not come into play for the final two years just to get a shot to play again. So this is a one year deal for Vinnie and it sounds like nobody will be getting a cap penalty.

What's the downside? Weal didn't play much. Depth is added on D. Lecavalier sounds like he isn't a long term risk. I don't know what the upside is, but not sure how much downside there is either. Maybe if it kept Lombardi from adding something else later if possible, but I don't know the numbers on that.

It's not like the Kings haven't won dragging some people along for the ride before, so, lets see how it goes.

The Kings may get some use out of Lecavalier as a 3rd or 4th line center, he's going to go for one last shot at the Cup so who knows, he may be motivated to perform better and has something to prove.

As for Schenn, he'll be playing behind Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez and McNabb and will serve as the right handed dman on the 3rd pairing that the team was looking for when they lost Matt Greene. He'll likely be paired with Christian Ehrhoff on the 3rd pairing, which is an upgrade over not having Matt Greene.

Given that they're both short term additions and depth moves, and they gave up no significant pieces from their roster and pipeline, it works. It also makes more sense with the amount of cap Philly is absorbing. Low risk, potentially high reward moves if the Kings go deep.

Considering how well they've performed with Weal not even contributing and Matt Greene out all season, the Kings just added some reinforcements without losing any roster player who was contributing. If it doesn't work out, it really doesn't hamper the Kings. It's like Lombardi did his old pal Hextall a favor and Hextall in a way did the Kings a favor by sending at the very least a serviceable, right handed defenseman that was needed.

Certainly cost them less getting Luke Schenn rather than going after a guy like Roman Polak who may cost a 2nd round pick and/or a prospect.

Also really like that we have 7 weeks or so before the TDL and a substantial point cushion to help these guys get comfortable.

3rd round picks aren't worth very much at all. Less than half will make the NHL, let alone become a full time NHLer. Mainboarders think that all thirds will become the next Crosby or something.

Is Luke Schenn better than McBain/Ehrhoff?

If yes, I'm fine with the trade. If no, we wasted a late 3rd round pick, we'll manage.

Remember when people complained that Dean traded away the AHL MVP?

Remember when people complained that Dean traded away Linden Vey?

Remember when people complained that Dean traded away Andrei Loktionov?

Remember when people complained that Dean didn't re-sign Bodnarchuk?

Remember when people complained that Dean traded Kozun?

Remember when people complained that Dean traded Weal?

These are all nothing players to the Kings.

And Brian O'Neill was just recently waived by the Devils with zero claims.

All Weal ever did was turn pucks over. He still plays like he's in the minors.

I think Vinny has been sort of benched out of spite in Philly. Could give our 2nd PP a nice boost. Doesn't seem to have a lot left as far as wheels go, but our transition game is less reliant on forwards flying through the neutral zone at 100 than Philly's.

Plus the whole pride thing. And our coaching staff has obviously watched tape on Schenn and feels like he can be salvaged ala McBain, McNabb and (briefly) Schultz.

Whole thing does feel somewhat like a precursor to something else though... hmm. Interesting at least. What is this, like the 3rd trade in the league this season?

Losing Weal is not a big deal. I don't agree with the people on this board that think he sucks or will not be in the NHL for a long time. Weal has skill and will be fine in the bottom six for the right team, like Vey in Vancouver.

The absolute only downside to this trade is that we will have no more moves to make at the trade deadline unless we make a trade involving Brown, which likely wont happen because teams wont want him and/or the Kings wont trade their captain with a big point lead in the division. Basically, say hello to your Kings playoff team (which I am okay with).

The Third hurts much more than Weal. Kings work that Third round really efficiently...
