This is an obnoxious post and I’m sure you’re fully aware of that.

It’s good to accomplish one’s goals!

No, pointing out the comparisons with his age group in college is meaningless, because older college players for the most part are marginal NHL prospects, few top draft picks stay in college more than a couple seasons unless they're flops. So there's little point comparing him to that group - outperforming non-prospects doesn't tell you much.

A better comparison might be with high draft picks in their 2nd (and a few in their 3rd) NCAA season. That would give a sense how he's progressing against players picked much higher who were considered better shots at starting in the NHL. Reason to focus on year 2 is even top prospects can struggle their first college season, but should be excelling in year two (and gone after that).

When you look at NCAA scoring leaders, a sizeable proportion are older players who are non-prospects, the same in the CHL where you see a number of overage players on the leader board.

Just because you think a comparison is meaningless doesn’t necessarily make it so.

I did this comparison anyways: Sophmore & Junior NCAA dmen (NHL drafted in RDs 1 & 2 only). Conference Game Play only:

At some point tonight I may do the Goal%, Involvement%, & Primary Involvement% for these players with their Conference+NonConference game stats included.

See, that's a lot more useful, although you have to discount Kalynuk a tad b/c he's in his third season/22 years old, that's a close enough comparison that you can state he's producing like a top NHL prospect.

Wisconsin's hockey team has been a grease fire this season. Rumors are flying as to who is leaving the program; players and possibly coaches as well. Speculation that Caulfield will sign and go to the AHL next season if he doesn't make the Canadiens. The same with Miller and Turcotte leaving for the pros. Under these circumstances its doubtful that Kalynuk would remain in Madison.

It's a shame Brink got hurt, he might have passed Caufield in points scored, which would have created a media controversy over which "shrimp" was the better pick. :sarcasm:
