or when you employee dave hakstol

Could always hire SSM's coach, Drew Bannister, this off-season, if he picks up some interest. I imagine he might, whether that's as an AHL coach or assistant. Only 43 too, with 3 years as an assistant and 3 years as head coach, so he's still an up-and-comer. But SSM plays dazzling puck moving hockey, and it's not only their talent. Best of all, he's bald and looks absolutely nothing like Hakstol's offspring.

It’s a minor miracle he’s playing again already. I’d give him at least a few weeks to work the kinks out after being out for 11 months.

I hope Pascal is not in the AHL. It's too crowded as is, and he needs scoring minutes which he isn't even deserving of relative to others. He's not the type to play low line, grinding minutes, like they often demand of young Phantoms players. And he's yet another RW. These are still his stats the last 2 years, and a few good weeks doesn't void that:

32 points in 46 games.
47 points in 64 games.

If f there's any chance of him developing into a player again, it's in the Q as an OA. He doesn't deserve to be in the AHL and might get chewed up and spit out if he makes that jump. He hasn't even torn up a junior league yet; and better prospects with pro-games and linear progress haven't torn up the AHL as rookies given the usage down there. I'm not sure what the rush is tbh. He's signed already, so it's a sunk cost.

I have absolutely no idea what Laczynski's upside is. That's a compliment.

I’m still not really sure why he wasn’t drafted in his first go around. He put up 46 points in 57 games in the USHL which isn’t bad at all. He played for Team USA at the Ivan Hlinka & played in that USA Hockey prospect game. So it wasn’t a case of a guy not getting the exposure.

That's what I've always said.

Has to improve his feet though. It's the one thing that stands out as needing to come. In stride, when he's actually skating, he's absolutely no worse than Lindblom. And like him, he can make up for it by creating space with his body and hands and vision. But he'll stand flat-footed too much, too upright, and you can see it limits him at times. Or he'll do the baby steps. When he turns pro, Flyers have to get on that more with skating coaches and training. Seems physically well built, so I don't know if it's conditioning. And he can skate in stride; hockey sense is fine; he's not a floater or lazy. But move your feet more and stay up on your skates, dude.

Another thing I've noticed from last year to this year is getting a little too finesse at times -- likely confidence and not like he's not skilled -- instead of simplifying and using his body and puck strength below the dots some more. Going to want to integrate that back in some more as a pro.

Laczynski, Tanner
RC – Lincoln Stars (USHL) 6’0.5", 190
HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 139

The Chicago Mission product was eligible for the 2015 NHL draft and had a solid rookie season in the USHL but a lack of consistency from night to night contributed to him being passed over on draft day. Upon completion of the 14/15 season, Laczyski worked hard in the gym and tacked on 15 lbs to his frame and it showed in his play this season where he was among the USHL points leaders all season long and was able to extend plays and stay on the puck better. Laczynski saw himself get traded from Chicago to Lincoln midway through the season but had no trouble continuing his PPG pace with his new team.

Laczynski is a silky handed center that see’s the offensive zone extremely well and has a knack for finding the open man. Tanner is a good skater to uses his speed well, seems to have another gear when entering the offensive zone and can get around defenders and takes it to the net. He possesses solid finishing ability with an accurate shot and willingness to battle in front for rebounds and garbage goals. Tanner shows a decent 200 foot game where he tracks back into the play well, produces good back pressure and uses his stick well to clog up passing lanes. Laczynski will be off to Ohio State in the fall where more seasoning to his all around game is needed but Tanner possesses a good skill set and work ethic that could see him not getting passed over in this draft.

Quotable: “I like his skill, he has NHL hands. I like him below the dots. I think he excels there.” NHL Scout (April 2016)

Quotable: “Skating would be the concern for me.” - HP Scout Mark Edwards

So, basically body + skating. Was a rookie too in the USHL his draft year as a summer b-day.

That injury may not have hurt his NHL chances, but it may have hurt his Flyers chances. He needed a big year with Hart and Sandstrom coming along. Its not like he has had a stellar AHL career so far
the timing of that injury just could not have been any worse...he would have had every opportunity to stay on the big club. sucks.
